Stelvie's Theme
 

Take the role of Stelvie, a little Archaeopteryx, and apply her archery skills to survive an onslaught of spooky phantoms while collecting glowy feathers.
*(May not be a scientifically accurate depiction of the Jurassic period.)

This game was originally created as a last minute entry for the #AwesomeMusicJam game jam. I have gotten a chance to add to it since the end of the jam. :)

- - Controls - -
All controls are rebindable. Press Escape for menu.

  • Enter: Full screen

  • A & D: Move

  • Space: Jump - (See Instructions for Air & Spring jump.)

  • Mouse: Aim

  • Mouse button 1: Fire (loose) an arrow

  • M: Cycle music volumes.

  • Brackets: Change background brightness. (Backslash resets.)

- - Instructions - -

Objective:
Collect the glowing feathers. Survive. These are simpler times. :)

Spring Jump:
You can "spring" jump by jumping immediately after you land on the ground.
When you spring jump twice in a row, your second jump will be higher.

Air Jump:
You can "air jump" in mid air once before landing.
An air jump will break a spring jump chain.

Firing Arrows:
Aim Stelvie's arrows with the mouse pointer, and click to fire.
Holding the pointer farther away from her will cause her to fire arrows with greater velocity.
Arrows can hit each other, so be mindful when firing several in quick succession. Likewise, arrows that miss their mark will stay on the map for a while. Over time missed arrows can pile up on the ground, becoming tricky to shoot around.

Arrow Bar:
At the bottom of the screen is a bar showing your remaining arrows. When you fire an arrow you will lose 1 charge from the bar. The bar will slowly regenerate, so you'll never run out of arrows, but you may still want to manage their usage carefully. When you collect a feather your arrow bar will refill instantly.

Feather Pointer:
At the start of the game, and each time you collect a feather, a blue-green icon and pointer-arrow will point out the location of the next feather.

- - Known Issues - -

  • FireFox is slow: As far as I can tell, this is just an issue with FireFox and HTML5. The Desktop version of the game should run very smoothly regardless.

- - Fixed Issues - -

  • Palms on the left edge of BG missing fronds. Ran out of time. Such is the way of the jam. :) (update: Finally finished them among other details in the bg painting.)

  • In Options menu, on Display tab, Zoom In an Zoom Out now work while you're in the menu.

  • Custom key-bindings no longer reset on defeat.

  • Fullscreen and small-screen modes, remember pixel scale independently.

  • Default fullscreen pixel scale now based on monitor's vertical resolution. Should make game's default scale more consistent across different monitor sizes. (You can still set the pixel scale manually to whatever you want.)

  • Arrow charge bar now resets to full after defeat.

  • No longer a possibility of getting stuck in an infinite defeat sequence if you keep touching phantoms. (I never saw this happen, but I realized it could in rare cases, due to how defeat was coded.)

  • Music loops much better now.

  • Deprecated "Guide" action removed from bindings list.

  • Background bug fixed.

  • Feathers are far less likely to spawn right next to each other now.(#awesomemusicjam)
