The art is crisp, the soundtrack is great, the mechanics are solid, it's an incredible submission to be made in such short time, but I have a critique (more of a suggestion for future releases, really). It could use a score counter, and maybe leaderboards (I imagine there just wasn't enough time to implement these). Either that or, as someone mentioned in another comment, it could turn into an exploration based game. It can get a lot more replay value if you make more palpable objectives, either as a short metroidvania or a straightforward arcade score-til-you-drop.
This is a neat game, though if there ever really is a jelly invasion, I feel I may not be the person to call. :)
I like the graphical feel of this game a lot. The little pixely jellies everywhere and particles make for a pretty fun chaotic scene. I also like the buying mechanic.
It took me a bit to get the hang of piloting my sub, and during that time, the jellies could smell my fear.
The music was fun, and I thought it was a nice touch that the reason you can't buy during a jelly wave is because the facility lifts out of the water during an attack. :)
Oh, on the lerning curve for the sub, this might just be me, but I think one thing that may have tripped me up a bit when getting a feel for the sub was that I didn't necessarily always have something in the foreground layer to discern my speed from. One thing that might work as a nice foreground reference would be a sparse scattering of little ambient particles suspended in the water. e.g. They could be 1x1 pixel particles that slowly fade in and out in random locations, and maybe at an average density of only about 2 or 3 in a screen at a given time. They could scroll with the foreground layer.
look really good, simples but engaging objective, controls felt a little too floaty, even if it was partially intentional.
awesome job 8/10 too much water
Kind of giving me serious Metal Slug vibes.
This game is great! I played it for a live stream, and loved it so much, I made a Let's Play vid of it. Very addictive, easy to learn, challenging to advance. Loved the graphics and sound. Great job!

Do you hate jellyfishes? No? What about monster jellyfishes? What about over sized, monster jellyfishes that hate nuclear reactors to the point of headbutting them to death, destroying, in the process, the only energy source of the small, isolated floating fortress where you and your dear family spend your living days?
What about now, do you hate jellyfishes now? Because in this underwater shoot'em up you (that's right!) get to pilot the submarine unit Defender 88 (D-88, for friends and acquaintances) and to protect three generators with your life, machine guns and mighty torpedoes. Dash like a madman through curtains of bubbles, dodging ever increasing waves of evil medusoid creatures while shooting them in the face. Do jellyfishes even have faces? They do now.
Defender 88 was Midipixel Games' contender for the 2015 #GBJam, where it finished in 13th place! The current version, featuring new and improved graphics from the amazing Gabriel Fernandes, is participating in #gjfest! :) Please vote for us!
