Missing in Abyss

He rubbed away the goosebumps that

suddenly covered his arms.

Unrelenting cold

nipped at him like a puppy,

unaware of the possibility of causing pain.

Scanning, searching for her in a deep abyss,

no stars in sight, but thankful

for the moonlight

shimmering on bright, snowy flakes.

She had been his sun,

his warmth on cold days,

a light in dark times, but now

he was lost

without her in an abyss.

Problems all his own

stalk in shadows,

always close to grabbing him,

dragging him farther from her.
