4K Views: Information about the next update.

I’m currently in the middle of re-doing some of my texture atlases in preparation for the next level, —I’m really close to being finished with the first one! So let’s look at what I have done so far:

  1. Enemy prototypes. No, they aren’t modelled or textured or animated, but they do WORK. Modelling and animating the enemies is going to be a very, very big job for me. Just doing one will probably take a whole month, considering how much I’ll have to learn, so I’m holding that off until after I’m done with the first level’s main skeletion.

  2. Controls have changed! Right-clicking is still used to interact with the gameworld, -stuff like opening and closing doors or picking up eys. but “e” can be used to observe things now. Pressing it will give you some textual information about the object you’re currently looking at. I’ll probably cover in mroe depth why I wanted to do this later.

  3. Atmoshpere Control. The game has always had a fog effect that changes depending on where you are, but I now have much more control over this effect, and you’ll see it happen during your playthrough.

  4. Progress. Before, you could kind of explore the house, but that was it. Now there’s just a little bit of story information, a puzzle for you to solve, and you even get to make it to a darker, scarier part of the game.

  5. Sound! There are sound effects for most gameplay mechanics, as well as ambiant background music for the level!

Now, I’ve also fixed a few bugs, made LOADS of tiny tweaks (they must all amount to SOMETHING, right?) and I’ved modified a lot of my code to be more pluggable and modifiable for the future. I’ve made a ton of progress so far, but I still have a few big milestones that I want to finish before I’mr ready to uplaod this update:

  1. I need to add in more details and objects for the player to look at throughout the level.

  2. I need to set up the Memento system.

  3. I need to set up a tutorial level, which will also provide you with the first memento.

  4. The second part of the level works, but isn’t complete. It doesn’t feel quite like how I want it to yet, so a lot of work still needs to go into it.

I’ve uploaded two screenshots of the game, and might upload a few more before the day’s over. I’ll probably upload a video detailing some of the changes and why I’ve made them, as well as what I plan on changing in the future, but I’m at the mercy of my Internet connection for that one. Anyways, thanks for reading and I hope you’ll be excited to try out the new update once I upload it!

Been working lately on lots of 'behind-the-scenes' boring stuff that no one really cares about, so here’s a guy playing the sax for some reason.

Shadow The Hedgehog X pixel art

Updated the chest in the maze, adding sound, particles and better animation. But what's in the chest?

Sometimes the suction cup get sticky. Small animation I made in Blender after doing my tutorial on picking up/dropping objects in animations. Crate model by jQueary (https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/game-ready-sci-fi-crate-d98deca6…).

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)
