Heya, everyone. Alpha 2 canary is here along with the source code! Though, I seen players wanting a macOS port. I am here to discuss that, too.
Alpha 2 Canary Released
Yep! Finally, another update! But wait... Is this... Unfinished!? Yes, so... Unfortunately, the new update's scope is causing it to not be released sooner than I expected. I am also not good at playtesting my own engine and having a small group of people is nice, but a larger quantity is much better. Therefore, I decided to release the new update early and unfinished as a canary release!
You know what Discord Canary is, right? It is like that for Unity Party. The canary releases are early, unfinished, and potentially unstable builds of the game that I am requesting players try out and report any issues. There will be a warning message each time you start a canary build that warns you that... you are playing an early and unfinished build of the game.
The more players that play the canary release, the more issues that players can find! Oh, right. You all want the patch notes? Here! I, uh... Forgot most of them but here are some I can remember from the top of my head.
You can no longer press notes during the start of a song or during the pause menu.
Added key binds for resetting and for pausing.
You can now calibrate visual and input offsets.
Added a button in-game to join our Discord server.
Added in-game bug reporting.
Press Left Shift + Left Alt + B to open the reporting system anywhere in the main game.
Two-player mode received a minor overhaul.
Both players now have separate scoring.
Both players now get their own ratings.
AutoPlay received a facelift.
It simulates two (perfect) players fighting each other.
The health bar is smaller.
General bug fixes.
Please report all bugs and issues via in-game reporting or the Discord server!
macOS Port Discussion
There are players wondering where the macOS port of the engine is. It is coming soon. Currently, Unity Party is using an older version of the Unity Game Engine. The game is using Unity 2019.4.28. This version of the Unity engine does not support the new requirements set by Apple. For the game to be compatible, I must upgrade the current engine to 2020 LTS. Once we do this, we can notarize the game and have it compatible with macOS. Stay tuned for that, we have not forgotten about you, macOS players.
Source Code Released
Yep, finally. I have officially released the source code of Unity Party! You may now change it how you wish. But there are no guides on how to add a custom character or change anything specifically, yet. The engine is not final so some things might change in one form or another, so making a video guide about how to do a certain thing might become obsolete.
I licensed the engine under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
In plain language, you are free to change the engine how you want it, but you must supply attribution and not use the engine for commercial purposes. You also must use the same license for any mods you may make using this engine.
Thank you!
Thanks to everyone who supported the engine's development thus far! It really means a lot to see you all enjoying the engine, despite the flaws it has. I hope future updates will help you see more potential that this engine could have!
