Last year, I watched my first live Video game announcement show, the 2024 Xbox Live Showcase. In this showcase, there were many great trailers, Doom: The Dark Ages was announced, but the standout one for me was the Perfect Dark reboot. I was so excited for this game, it was a first-person Cyberpunk stealth game that just looked fun. I waited, and waited, and waited, and just a few months before its release, it was cancelled. The entire studio was closed, and everybody working in it was laid off. This was going to be the first AAA dedicated stealth game in almost 10 years. And Phil Spencer ripped it away from us just a short bit before we were to get it. This event has genuinely ruined my year, I waited almost an entire year for a game and it's just fucking gone. A lot of people try not to be pessimistic about the gaming industry, and I used to be like that! I used to think that the gaming industry could turn around any day. But now? Now I'm not so sure. You can say I'm overreacting, and there might be some truth to that. But goddamnit we haven't had a new stealth game in 10 years. And a new first person one since dishonored 2. All Phil had to do was leave it the fuck alone, probably would have made more money than laying everybody off. The worst part? There was a chance for it to come back! But Phil Spencer wouldn't let go of the rights to the franchise. A franchise, mind you, which will likely never be touched again. So, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, if by some miracle you see this, FUCK YOU.
