So first things first, if you haven't listened to the two songs, I highly recommend you do before reading this article-
Here is the link to Usseewa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp3b-RXtz4w
Here's the link to Bitter Choco Decoration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCyKJD6uQyg&t=78s
(if you want a cover with a voice that moreso fits Frace, I recommend this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUsgGIxJlj0)
And here is the link to the mashup that got me brainstorming all this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ8t6tA4pF4
Sidenote: The songs are in japanese, the 3 links I shown have english subtitles to them, but the mashup doesn't, if you want links to a full list of the lyrics here’s Usseewa: https://vocaloidlyrics.fandom.com/wiki/%E3%81%86%E3%81%A3%E3%81%9B%E3%81%87%E3%82%8F_(Usseewa) and here’s Bitter Choco Decoration: https://vocaloidlyrics.fandom.com/wiki/%E3%83%93%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%81%E3%83%A7%E3%82%B3%E3%83%87%E3%82%B3%E3%83%AC%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%B3_(Bitter_Choco_Decoration)
I will be going off from all that I know of Frace so I may be incorrect on how I view all this so be warned-
So first things first, Usseewa is a song that can be generalized as being about a hatred towards society, with a lot of lyrics that directly criticize the idea of common sense like "I’m fed up with those rehashed, rephrased parodies of yours" and "I'm healthier than you think I am!". This is made somewhat more apparent by the title of the song, うっせぇわ(usseewa), which is a short saying for the japanese word, うるさいわ (urusaiwa), which roughly translates to "Shut up!" and is usually used in a very informal way, which, y'know, society wouldn't want you using-
Crepe is someone who lives a sort of nihilistic-hedonistic life, they've been disillusioned by the tragedies of the world and no longer care about anybody since, being a god-like entity, they don't have to give a damn about anybody since the Angels are immortal and mortals come and die, so they choose to instead live according to their own desires. With that, comes a distain towards expectations and whatnot, they hate being viewed as someone other than a "villain", as they believe villainy is the ultimate form of freedom one can achieve, so they're quick to act hostile towards anyone who tries to view them as a good person, or at least tries to make them into one.
They hate having standards placed on them and they don't like it when people expect everyone, including them, to act like a decent human being, because they know that decency isn't benevolence for your own sake, it's the erasure of identity to conform to the tastes of another person's life. And considering how Usseewa is about literally telling people like these to "shut the fuck up!", the song fits Crepe to a T.
It's not just the hatred of society that fits Crepe as well. With focusing so much on their own satisfaction, they ended up becoming somewhat of a sadist, and there's some lyrics in the song that sorta match that: "If I pointed my muzzle of words to your head and fired, wouldn’t that be so crazy? I can’t stop moaning and groaning till you die! My spirit becomes sadistic." There's also lyrics like the aformentioned "I'm healthier than you think!" and "The spokesperson for the modern era is me, got it?!", which does fit Crepe as they do have somewhat of an ego-
Also there's just the general fact that the song is in japanese and uses a lot of vulgar in it, and Crepe is japanese and vulgar so liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike-
Yeah this song fits Crepe to an extent- Even the MV, which features the main character surrounded by and subsequently killing multiple people, has Crepe vibes since they're not hesitant to commit violence- (also just the gusto of the voice)
Nowww onto Bitter Choco Decoration and Frace-
The song is about wanting to fit into society, a direct opposite of Usseewa's meaning, the desire to mold yourself into the image people expects you to be until you pretty much erase every part of your own identity just to please those around you, with lyrics like "I (also) must've forget to throw in some light jokes and some small talk here and there, and to always smile and please everybody." Now, I wouldn't really call Frace that of a people-pleaser, as even he has his limits, though he does always try and act nice at first, even to those who actively spit in his face.
He's always wanting to help people, without wanting anything in return, he doesn't like fighting, he genuinely tries to find the good in people, he's a direct opposite to Crepe. However when it comes to kindness, there's also a sense of conformity that comes with it, and a lack of self-preservation.
When Frace came across his ability to manipulate the files of his world, he immediately used it to try and help people, fix their problems, just try and make life a lot easier. Nothing inherently wrong with using your powers for good, though he somewhat used his powers carelessly, ultimately deleting his world and himself through his own abuse. In his attempts to help people, he ended up making this a lot worse for himself and those he tries to help. Wolver once said that he’s manipulated his own code, which can be argued as him trying to mold himself into a good person, like what the song entails.
Lyrics such as “If your heart manages to stay true to itself after your head becomes empty, then surely you’ll do the same.” can be taken as Frace manipulating his code to be “pure of heart”, while lyrics like “Every morning, every night- I've reached my breaking point” obviously allude to Frace’s stress at having to be nice all the time.
He also acknowledges that his attempts at benevolence ultimately destroyed everything, with the lyrics “Tomorrow, and certainly from this point forward…. This hell will continue to the bitter end.” referring to the now-corrupted state of his world and his suffering existence. Despite everything, though, he still tries to keep a kind-heart, even when he knows it’s impossible to maintain one in a Crapsack World.
The prison allegories in the MV of the song can also link back to Frace, as he’s essentially imprisoned himself in his own life, literally and figuratively, with how the main character is wearing a prison inmate uniform as well as wearing what seems to be a shock-collar. There’s also near the end where the MC loses his orange color and becomes black, which I can imagine as Frace turning into his now corrupted self, having “finally grown up.”
(also ig you could see the fact the song is originally sung by Hatsune Miku, a voice synthesizer, as Frace acting like a robot, doing whatever people want him to do.)
Now I kinda wanna talk a bit about the scenario I thought of with these two that fits with the format of the mashup video that got me to write this whole article in the first place-
The mashup is arranged to start off with the first section of Usseewa, then the middle half being of Bitter Choco Decoration, then the latter half finishing with more of Usseewa, and the supposed scenario being Crepe and Frace’s first meeting after being separated for a long time, Crepe having since grown and forgotten about Frace (willfully as they didn’t want to remember the pain of losing him), and Crepe’s ignorant attempts to get Frace to understand they’re not the person he knows (anymore) while he tries to get through to them and make them know they’re not an awful person like they claim to be. Essentially a clash between someone who rebels and abhors everybody and someone who conforms and loves everybody.
“What is rightness? What is stupidity? I’ll show you what they are!”: Crepe aggressively trying to show Frace who is right and who is wrong, Crepe being “rightness” and Frace being “stupidity”
“I was an honor student when I was young. Before I realized, I was already grown up.”: Crepe recounting their view on their childhood, pointing out how they were praised for their talent and intellect and being forced to ‘grow up’ because of the expectations placed on them.
“A train of thought like a knife, which I didn’t have at the time”: Crepe wishing they had gain their “villainy = freedom” mindset a lot sooner in their youth, describing it as a knife to kill the people putting them on such a pedestal.
“But I’m not having fun, something is missing. These troubles better be somebody’s fault! I’m just confused erryday.”: I can see this as Crepe either voicing their thoughts as a child back then, knowing they weren’t happy being everyone’s “golden child” and generally being confused as to, despite being loved by everyone, they couldn’t find any love for themselves, or this can be Crepe’s mind beginning to remember their time with Frace back then and feeling like something is missing from their childhood, though they sum it up to being the fault of someone messing with their mind.
“Well, is that so?”: Kinda a needless thing to note here, but I feel like this lyric is being said by Frace, trying to let Crepe know that, of course, no one is messing with them and something is indeed missing.
“Understanding the latest trends, checking the stock market on my way to work, Joining a company with pure spirit, these are the obvious rules for us workers”: Frace attempting to recite the lesson he’d taught Crepe about having common sense, referring to both him and them as “workers”. Somewhat self-depreciative-
“Huh??? Shut up, Shut up, Shut the fuck up!! I’m healthier than you think!”: Crepe essentially telling Frace to put a sock in it. “Healthy” in this context being Crepe’s mental state, saying they’re happy being a bad guy and Frace is spewing bullshit about them not being happy.
“You are too ordinary to understand me, perhaps.”: Crepe thinks Frace is unable to understand them since they’re an Angel, which makes them a god compared to him and therein someone beyond his comprehension.
“Ah, you’re such a perfect match for those mediocre melodies of yours.”: Mediocre melodies can be seen as either the supposed delusions of Frace having met and attempted to reform Crepe in the past, or his beliefs that he’s still a good person even after everything he’s done, either way, Crepe is degrading Frace here, saying he’s basically just as stupid as the supposed shit he’s spewing.
“Shut up, shut up, shut the fuck up!! I think differently, so there’s no problem at all!”: Crepe once again telling Frace to shut up while also using his own advice against him. It’s generally seen as good to acknowledge that people have different thoughts and emotions than each other, so Crepe would be basically saying “You’re a good person, aren’t you? You should know by now I think differently than you!”
“I try not to pointlessly expose myself, not to talk about myself, not to understand myself, but I try not to be a bit too silent, to be laughed at rather than to make people laugh”: Frace reiterating his own advice because he believes now that trying to instantly act familiar towards Crepe, who doesn’t remember him, is what’s making them so hostile towards him, though he does find it better that Crepe is laughing at him than with him, since he does believe he somewhat deserves it.
“I try to properly show respect to people, to worship people, to praise people, but I try not to let that turn into sarcasm, not to make fun of others.”: Essentially telling himself “Treat others how you want to be treated.”. He obviously wants to be treated with respect by Crepe, and so he tries to act more respectful towards them, though he also doesn’t want to come off as too respectful since Crepe had already voiced their complaints about being worshiped, nor does he want them to believe he’s being sarcastic.
“A life sentence of group participation, sucking up to others like ‘Hey, your bangs look totally super fresh and awesome right now!’ and so on, despite never meaning a word of it.”: This can either be Frace believing he failed as a mentor or Crepe demeaning Frace on his lack of a spine. Frace thinking he essentially tried to force Crepe to conform and change their entire identity when all he really wanted was to help redeem them, which is what’s causing Crepe to act so volatile towards him, meanwhile Crepe’s description his kindness as a “life sentence”, as in a self-imposed prison of people-pleasing, while also pointing out how he’s only nice because he wants to be nice, never meaning anything he says.
“Every morning, every night- I’ve reached my breaking point, a lynch mob in a religious society, but I try not to let it break my mind.” Frace seeing how stressful it is to try and be nice to a not-so-nice world, but he also knows that there’s still hope in the world, and doesn’t want to let the malice around him corrupt him. Kill them with kindness, as they say.
“Bitter Choco Decoration. Sometimes that lonely love defiles you.”: Crepe here saying that maybe Frace being alone for so long had driven him insane, describing it as being defiled.
“Bitter Choco Decoration. After the birds take flight, surely all they leave behind is shitty art.” Crepe and Frace both acknowledge that even the most beautiful things can bring filth wherever they go, calling themselves birds who just shit wherever and whenever they want, both in a self-depreciative sense.
“At first, I had bragged and boasted a lot, but now saying ‘no’ is also an expression of fondness”: Not 100% sure what this could mean, Crepe certainly is a boisterous type of enby and Frace obviously isn’t but other than that, I’m not really sure how this could link to either of the two- Maybe Frace refusing to see Crepe as a bad guy is being seen as a fondness to them.
“‘Oh my! Even though today is your first time, you’re a natural! You have excellent taste!’”: Crepe showing glee at Frace losing hope in trying to get them to remember him, seeing it as him finally acknowledging that life really is meaningless and miserable, which Crepe genuinely sees as a good thing.
“Shut up, shut up, shut the fuck up… shut up, shut up, shut the fuck up, I’m your so-called genius!”: Frace snapping out of his despair, while also snapping all together, and telling Crepe for them to shut up now, while also calling himself the genius since Crepe refuses to, at least, be more nicer about him pushing the narrative that they’ve known each other, since the hostility is unnecessary and is only making the situation worse.
“Shut up, shut up, shut the fuck up! I’m healthier than you think!”: Crepe once again reiterating this line, a basic “No, YOU shut up!” while also saying that they’re still mentally sound enough to know what the hell they’re doing, calling Frace the sick one for causing this whole debuckal.
“You are too ordinary to understand me, perhaps.”: Frace calling Crepe simple-minded for not at least seeing and understanding where he’s coming from when he said they had history together.
“Ah, so boring, how many times do I have to listen to those memories of yours?”: Crepe’s beginning to get bored of this whole back and forth, wondering if there’s even a point in getting Frace to “understand” that they’ve never met before.
“Shut up, shut up, shut the fuck up! I might be as bad as you, but I don’t care! No problem at all!” Frace once more telling Crepe to stop spouting nonsense. He does know he may be as awful as them, but he doesn’t care about that at all, because he’s still going to be a good person, he’s still going to be a good person, and he isn’t going to let Crepe tell him otherwise. Even if he fails to make Crepe remember him, he still won’t let them continue tormenting the people around them, and he wants that fact to be very apparent to Crepe.
TDLR: Angy fox and conformist man begin to argue and ultimately the fox learns the man does have a spine-
Thaaaaaaat’s pretty much all I gotta say lol, feel free to add yer own thoughts and Wolver, if you’re reading this, please tell me if I got anything wrong about Frace hHHHHH
Thanks for reading my bullshit this took nearly an hour to write hHHHHHH
