An essay on the music for the Wither Storm.

(This includes both the official music by Antimo & Welles along with the fan track made for the Cracker's Wither Storm mod.)

Really quick, I will be splitting each song/song portion into multiple sections, where I explain the feelings the song trys to convey.

I will also explain which phases the song/ song part plays in when you play the Crackers Wither Storm mod.

Section 1: The Wither Storm theme (Antimo & Welles. Plays phases 1-4 and phase 6)

This part of the theme, to me at least, makes it feel the most terrifying. This is more than likely due to the intro, as one of the most prominent things is the siren noises that later get drowned out by the other instruments. The song itself is basically yelling at you to run the hell away as fast as humanly possible. And the bass that plays for about 3 seconds every now and then is like the Wither Storm rising up from where you summoned it. And then when the song gets past the intro, it's not yelling at you to run anymore, it's screaming at you to sprint. The sirens no longer telling you to run, but instead telling you that it's near and to hide underground or the other dimentions, where it cannot reach. Then, when the guitar kicks in, it's less telling you to run, and moreso telling you to dodge the beams that, when they catch you, will usually send you to your death. And when the tambourine starts to play, that represents you running, almost as if it were the sounds of the footsteps of other people who had ran away from this beast, while the synth is the Wither Storm itself, catching up to you, speeding up and slowing down randomly to find you. And when most of it drowns out except for ambience, it's usually too late, and if you're still somehow alive and on the ground when the drums start to play, thats no lunger telling you to run, but its the echoing of your footsteps and racing heart, which now beats at double time, untill you finally escape it, either by outrunning it or tunneling into the depths of the earth.

Section 2: The Wither Storm theme pt.2 (Antimo & Welles. Plays phase 6.)

long after you had escaped the Storm, after you got enchanted diamond gear, and possibly netherite too, you go back to the surface from the underground, or whichever dimension you fled to, only to see that the Storm has grown more than twice it's original size. The tambourine, the beat of your heart. The droning strings, your hesitant breaths of air. The drums no longer represent you, but now the chunks of the world that the Storm rips up. The jingling noises, the thought of possibly being able to somehow kill this creature that has essentially become a god, the thought of ridding the world of the monster you created. The thoughts of victory, while simultaniously reprensenting the thoughts of doubt and the memories of what it had done to the world, and the thought of what it may do to you. But nevertheless, you know that somehow, there is a way to kill this manmade eldrich horror with god-like powers, the thought of victory being just within reach.

Section 3: Bound by Darkness/Withered Symbiont theme. (Mar Mar. plays while fighting the Withered Symbiont.)

Later, after waiting for something to change, it appears. The Withered Symbiont. A zombie, overtaken by the corruption of the Wither Storm, a servant of the monstrocity that harbors the Earth's end. You must defeat it in order to kill the Storm. The drums, you as you approach. The trumpets and horns blaring as if the world itself is telling you that you cant do this. And when you finally find this thing and prepare for the fight, the elecric guitars start playing, representing your struggle against the Symbiont. The choir, the sounds of the symbiont, it trying to beat you, but out of sheer dedication, you somehow beat this monster, however, the abrupt end leads you to know that there is one final step to beating the Storm and ridding the world of this plague. One last item needed to win. Or rather, two items.

Section 4: Wither Storm theme/battle theme. (Antimo and Welles. Plays when fighting the Storm.)

Finally, inside the Storm, one final obstacle in your way. The droning ambience of the synth, your preparation for the finale. Your determination to see this out and win against this beast. You find the command block in the center of the beast, the block that started this all, and you prepare to finally destroy this block and be free of this creature chasing you, following your every move. By now, you're no longer scared, but fed up and angry at the Storm. For all it has taken, for the fear it has created. You are fed up of this thing, and will do whatever it takes to kill it once and for all. You go up to the block, ready to strike. You rid your mind of all doubt, and attack. The drumbeat, your heart. The piano, your doubt that still remains. The guitar, no longer your fear, but the Storm's fear. The synths of what was the Wither Storm's theme, now your anger, your determination to finally beat this thing, and when you deal the final blow, all of the dread. All of the anger. All of the fear, the hate, and everything just melts away. Outside the Storm, you watch this beast that has plagued the Earth finally fall. It doesn't come back up. It doesn't rise anew. It's finally over. The nightmare is over. And now, after all that, you think of what had happened, what could've happened, and what will happen, as now, a new chapter has begun. You are free to finally start building without fear of an unstoppable beast coming to destroy everything you love. You finally won. And as you get the reward from killing the beast, you ask yourself one last and final question: "Was it worth it?"

For most, this question would make them give up on starting anew, but for others, this question is what drives them to try again and rebuild this world that the Storm has ripped up.

And now I ask you to come back after you've experienced this to ask yourself the same question.

To the people who read this entire thing:

Thank you.
