She Said it Was Hailing in The Attic,
but no one knew what she meant.
Hail indoors, in the attic no less?
If even possible, we would have heard it
banging, thumping, thudding
above our heads. She said
there was rain in the attic,
tearstains on her rosy cheeks,
but the attic was intact.
No one knew what she was
getting at when she said there
was rain in the attic. Surely,
the ceiling would have begun to leak.
She said it was getting to be too much,
but we all said she was fine as we watched
her climb to the roof. It’s hailing again,
she said, looking up into clear blue skies.
Now we know what she meant
when she said
it was hailing in the attic.
