Hello world! Today is a special half-week dev-log. Why? Because today, two years ago, I released the original “addictive” prototype to the world via the GMC. Needless to say, both this game, and my skills have exponentially grown since then.
So what, aside from acknowledging ARANA’s 2nd birthday, is the point of this post? Well, in honor of ARANA’s 2nd birthday I’m announcing two-er three things.
See those two? Those are the last two characters who are going to be released in the next update! Over the course of the past two updates, i’ve been galling over these last characters designs. Once I had finally found the theme, I went ham. The hooded creep is Keeper. He guards the cells for our characters in DEATHROW. Then there is Manager. As you might guess, he’s a jerk. Think Joshua from The World Ends With You, if he were older, and abused his power to an absurd degree. These two characters round out the cast of ARANA. Which leads me to another quick point. ARANA has two updates before it hits a brief period of beta, then release. Needless to say, I am excited.
This has been a project I’ve been working on since 2014, and I intend to finish it, for better or worse. I’ll discuss the terms of release once I iron out the details. But until then- Hold on. I almost forgot.
ARANA has been the most educational experience I’ve had. It’s taught me new techniques and methods of design, as well as the benefits of planning and evaluating. With those important lessons in mind, I have a special birthday gift to give. Ladies and gentlemen: the addictive source code.
Until next week for the full devlog.
See you then!!!
