MAJOR UPDATE CONCERNING THE FUTURE OF SANSTALE

For those of you who are recently joining me on the games devlog, you’ve most definitely noticed my most recent post ([RECALCULATING…]), concerning the GameMaker: Studio engine for Steam. Short and to the point, I’ve been thinking about my progress in the design of Sanstale this past while, especially with how much I’ve spent just this past month updating you guys almost nonstop, and I’ve come to several conclusions:

Though many would consider the games hype to have died down substantially since it’s initial release almost 2 years ago now, I still feel heavily inspired to work on this Fangame, more than ever now that I’ve gotten hooked on creating assets and writing notes for the story and what not. This isn’t just a project anymore, to me at least. To me, it feels like I owe it to you all, the Undertale fans, and even in some respects to Toby himself, to complete this game and release it in it’s full glory. That leads me into my second point,

RPG Maker VX Ace, while a fundamentally exceptional game making platform, is… in no way, shape, or form fit enough to make a proper Undertale Fangame. The inner workings of RGSS simply can’t handle it, and even if I was to hybridize the game, I’d hit the software’s limitations before I even finished the first chapter of the game. Even then, I felt like I’d be jipping you all on a true, prequel UNDERTALE fangame experience, given how it would be next to impossible to replicate Undertale’s battle, puzzle, hell, even the menu system isn’t as good as I would have hoped. So, I decided to think. With time, I ran into my second option for truly giving you all the true experience on this game:

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet GameMaker: Studio Version 1.4, the freeware Steam release of GameMaker engine, also known as the very same engine used to create the game UndertaleWhich USED TO have a miserably high crash rate on my PC but now… doesn’t??? Uh… Thanks, Windows Update…?

Now… This is where the “long shot” happens… Unlike RPG Maker, GameMaker really has no in place scripts from the get go. Whereas RPG Maker has all these movement, title, and window scripts in place right from the minute you download it, due to the more open nature of GameMaker as a general Game Creator… I need to fully recreate Undertale’s control scheme, battle system, music looping, pretty much, if not for the most part I suppose, ALL OF IT… From the ground up. Granted, this may not be as daunting as I would have initially believed. Despite everything that could absolutely go wrong from this, I’ve found some very basic tutorials on how to at least get a character moving, as well as how to set up basic collision boxes, which means I have the most basic portion of the game I can get in terms of overworld control. Downside, as of porting graphics from the old RPG Maker port?

Well…:

penis.

Anyway, This is probably the most major of an update I can supply to you guys so late at night. I say as I see it’s almost 2:30… God, I go to college in a year- ANYWAY! That’s as much as I have for the moment, I hope you all have a fantastic… Morning I guess? And take care…. Actually, I wonder if I can finally catch an Etika stream, right now…?

"Something borrowed, something new." ~ Scott Cawthon (Granted, I don't think he ever actually said that but, hey, it's a phrase.)

Probably an unused Dialogue Portrait.

Roughly 2 hours later:

God is dead

and we’re having a bad time because of it.

First Pause Window pretty much finished.

Now, logically... So I can move on with everything else... I should probably figure out how to get the hard part out of the way first.
