Characters: Doppelganger (right) and Quink (left)

SPOILER! None of this is true, anything said about the Nintendo game Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam is for storytelling purposes only.

Doppelganger: Just as he looks, a deranged fan of Super Mario. Used to be a game show host. A tech whiz, he performed a dangerous experiment, connecting his Nintendo 3DS (with the game Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam inserted) to multiple car batteries and one homemade nuclear fusion reactor. He ended up transferring himself into the console, more specifically, into the game. The nuclear power had melted his body, but in turn allowed him to take any form that did not already exist. He attempted to turn into Mario, but due to the restrictions, he turned into his current form and was locked into it as punishment for attempted rule-breaking.

Quink (short for Quinkydink): A scrapped version of Paper Kamek made by an anonymous developer; his code was stuck within the game. He found a way into the actual base game and met Doppelganger, who recruited him as an assistant for a secret quiz show found in a tunnel just outside Doop Doop Dunes.
