Confession and reveal


Alright so as said in the last post, I've stated that I'm going to turn Crash Bandicoot Warp Zone into a different fan game entirely. And today in this post, I'm going to reveal that. But before I talk about it, I need to make a confession.

In 2016 I had released a Crash Bandicoot Fan game that underwent the title "Crash Bandicoot: Hyper Crystal" For the longest time I have been highly ashamed of Hyper Crystal to the point where it was deleted for a period of time before I decided to put it back up for archival purposes. Though when I put it back up I labeled it as a "tech demo" when it truly wasn't a tech demo, I only labeled it that way because of how embarrassed I was at the game. The game itself was just incredibly rushed. There were supposed to be more bosses, actual cutscenes, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I'm just now recovering from my archives of the project. When I play the game now, I get the feeling I get when I play Crash Twinsanity, the feeling of not asking for more game, but wondering where the rest of the game is. And like Crash Twinsanity, I cut a whole bunch of crap from Hyper Crystal just for the sake of releasing it sooner because I just wanted to move forward to work on other projects at the time.

But even then, I feel like with all the ideas I originally had for Hyper Crystal, I had scoped way too big for my game dev skills to handle at the time. Now that I'm older and MUCH more experienced with game development. There's always been a thought in my head that I could possibly finish either Hyper Crystal or my original game Spearvin. And while working on Warp Zone. I feel like I was creating what Crash Bandicoot Hyper Crystal was supposed to be.

Now for the reveal, my intent with Crash Bandicoot Warp Zone was to make a basic 5 level Crash game similar to other fangames like Crash Bandicoot Flash and Crash Bandicoot Underwater. But now I want to change it to something else

Crash Bandicoot Hyper Crystal: Respun

A reimagining (or remaster... whatever) of Crash Bandicoot Hyper Crystal.

I want to do this in an attempt to make Hyper Crystal an actual fun video game rather than some half assed attempt at a Crash Bandicoot game. And I don't want to make this some simple remake no, I'm going to add

  • The original levels with modifications to look and overall play better

  • A MUCH BETTER original soundtrack

  • Actual ingame cutscenes (and not stupid Jpgs from the GBA games and Star Wars esc text scrolls)

  • More varied assets (Which you'll know about if you've played the Nitro Island prototype)

  • And of course, brand new boss fights and levels that I had originally intended to put in the game, but didn't because I was super lazy at the time.

Whenever I plan to reveal this? Idk but the 2 levels that have been shown so far for Crash Warp Zone. Will indeed be 2 of the new levels that will be in Hyper Crystal Respun.

I'm really excited to work on this, this has been an idea I've been thinking about for awhile now so yea....
