Today's course concerns a fact of life in this day in age, by which I mean cybernetics. Implants. Bionics. Mods. Bling. Gild. These augmentations come under many names, shapes, sizes, colours and use cases, but can all be generally grouped into four all-encompassing classes. These are:

  1. "Replacement" class

  2. "Industry" class

  3. "Utility" class

  4. "Discretionary" class

1. "REPLACEMENT" CLASS

The "Replacement" class of bionic modifications do exactly what you'd expect them to do. They are generally not very specialised and are mostly quite generic. They include:

  • Synthetic limbs

    • Some, more expensive bionic limbs can use a mixture of cloaking technology, temperature and texture morphing to look and feel like a natural limb.

  • Synthetic eyes, ears, noses

    • Synthetic eyes generally always have freely customisable appearance options.

  • Synthetic skin, flesh tissue and organs

  • Synthetic hair

    • Hair implants are widely considered the most "boujie" category in its class, with it utilising a complex network of nanofibers to allow on-the-fly customisation of colour, texture, length and curl.

Before we end this segment on the "Replacement" class, it is important to remember that, despite its bland nature, this class is the benchmark and blueprint for all other cybernetics, and fundamentals should never be overlooked.

The "Industry" class is characterised by synthetic augmentations focusing on enabling an individual to perform jobs that they would otherwise be unable to do, or add more convenience for usually inconvenient tasks. This class includes:

  • Powered, heavy duty arms for lifting cargo, rubble or heavy tools

  • Synthetic arms with integrated tools, e.g an electric drill, buzz saw or screwdriver.

  • "Jumpboot" legs used for jumping over gaps, obstacles or climbing up scaffolding

The "Industrial" category shows that humanity has become advanced enough to evolve on its own to satisfy modern needs without needing to wait for nature.

The "Utility" class focuses on augmentations that make various tasks easier or more convenient. These tasks can range from common things like housework or shopping that require simpler implants, or more advanced tasks such as invisible threat detection which requires much more demanding implants. Such implants include:

  • Synthetic eyes with integrated Wi-Fi connectivity and heads-up display

  • Arm-integrated notepad screens for writing down reminders such as grocery lists or medication times

  • Mild cognitive boosters to increase situational awareness and the brain's calculational capacity

  • Synthetic eyes with various detection modes e.g motion sensors, thermal, infrared, ultraviolet or sensors that detect gasses such as carbon monoxide

This class, much like the "Industrial" class, once again proves humanity's ability to evolve without the help of frivolities such as nature or genetics.

The final segment of this course discusses Class 4, the "Discretionary" class. Shall we finish this, Trainee?

The "Discretionary" class of implants is exactly what the name implies. It is home to various technologies that, although stylish, aren't in a person's immediate needs and are rather simply an extra. Examples include

  • Leg-integrated storage compartments (most commonly pistol holsters)

  • Custom voice boxes

  • Voice box integrated speakers

  • Finger integrated lighters

There are obviously many, many more examples. Sadly, however, the company reserves time for some more important endeavours.

The end of this course marks the beginning of your journey with cybernetics and related technology. You have been attentive, Trainee, I expect great things from you.
