Depression and its portrayal on videogames.

An article for the 3-4 degens that follow me.

Before starting, yes I take on me doing a shitty game of the ones I'm about to criticise (K********). If its not up or retaken its development its for a reason lol. I simply grew up and learnt to not cry for everything.

I want to split this SemenJolt article in 2.

A. Why games about depression are bad on its majority.

B. Why are they not supportive or helpful for people with mental issues (Depression)


Why games about depression are bad on its majority.

Games about depression or similar topics are usually created to aim at a certain population; first world teens (Though they sometimes get to other kind of people).

Sugarcoated with cute or animeish characters, these games usually don't touch anything related to the topics they want to portray, focusing their gametime on quirky childish adventures or mental divagations that don't explore anything and that are just there to waste your time.

Just then, at certain moments or the very end, make a plot twist without any kind of foreshadowing besides crypitic shit that no casual player can get on their runs to justify how deep their games supposedly are.

These games are usually baits for teens who have 0 mental issues to think on themselves as the worst treated shit on earth and to talk about these mindless creations as if they were masterpieces of some kind when in reality they just are superficial games.


Why are they not supportive or helpful for people with mental issues (Depression)

(Yes, depression is a mental illness)

These games ofter sugarcoat having no friends or having mental issues as something cute, normal, or lovely, when its not and can lead to people to only realize it when its too late.

You see what I mean? Romantizing having problems only makes peeps want to keep them instead of moving on or getting real responsabilities.

If you have Depression, Anxiety, or other disorders look for help in your loved ones, and if you have none do it on your family, and if you can't access to them search for a psychologist or make acquaitnances. Maintaining this permament state of sadness can only lead you to hurting yourself or even worse things.
