DEVLOG - 005


Hey, been a while. This may be one of the shorter devlogs we have, but there's still some nice additions we'd like to share with you today. Let's get right to it, shall we?


True Lab Changes

Most of our recent work has focused on adjusting the progression in the True Lab. We decided to remove the fridge maze entirely, as it felt out of place and it wasn't a fun section at all. However, we still wanted to keep the fridges in COTV.

The way you could fight the Amalgamates has changed as well. Originally, encountering the Amalgamates was tied to failing the puzzle, meaning it was entirely possible to go through the game without ever seeing them. Plus their fights weren't as exacting as you would expect. We wanted the Amalgamates to feel like an integral part of the Lab, much like in Undertale, but with our own twists. Each encounter is now designed to be surprising and unique, and the battles now feature two Amalgamates, which gives us more room for creativity for different attack patterns.

But that's not the end. A long time has passed since your last visit, and while the True Lab may look the same, something feels different...
It’s as if someone or something else you've never seen is here. Whether you’ll come face to face with it, though, is up to you.

QoL Changes

Pretty much things that should have been in the game from the get-go. Such as:

  • Using the CELL and selecting 'Dimensional Settings' now brings up an Options menu.

  • There is now an additional SAVE point in the bedroom area.

  • Addition of a new vending machine in the main hub room that serves as an ITEM shop.

  • True Lab monitors have had their appearances altered to better convey there is someone else speaking through the notes.

Phase 3B

While two-thirds of the phase’s attacks are complete, we’re still far behind when it comes to sprites and writing. We originally had a script for 3B, but because the attacks were developed so rapidly, it’s no longer consistent with the current vision (3B is 18 attacks long for your information). Thanks to Luciii for being a silly little goober, she is currently locked away until the script is fixed. I may bring her a slice of bread if half of the script is done... if i feel like it...

Phase 3C

Phase 3C's narrative has been solidified (for the most part) but everything else remains in a planning/conceptual phase. Figuring out the narrative was the hardest part, so with that done we can start focusing on actual gameplay. We posted some small teasers of it in the discord server a while back, but for those who haven't seen them, here they are:

Conclusion

That about wraps it up for this devlog. Hopefully next time we'll have something a bit juicier to show, though some things may be better off as surprises, right? Be seein' you.

#Undertale10 I never played Undertale besides the Demo of it (and only played a little bit of chapter I of Deltarune).

But it was so everywhere online that I ended up learning about most of it from gameplay videos and even ended up watching fan-animations
