Devlog 03: "Dungeons and Bosses"


Hey there!

We just smashed through 70 views - thank you all so much! I can't believe we've hit that many viewers already I wanna say thank you to everybody checking it out so far!

Let's get into the meat and potatoes-- as per the screenshot of the pillars unlocked in the new cemetery:

Work has begun on the set of new levels:

The Skeleton Crypt and the Ghastly Dungeon!

The dungeon is the more fleshed out of the two: it is dark and damp, bricks wet and cold. There lies ancient cages and candelabras and the passages are teeming with restless ghosts and spirits.

The crypt is very early in development but since they are similar in concept -- places for the dead -- I tried to vary the area by making the color palette warm as opposed to the dungeon's cold colors: (Keep in mind, very early development on this next one)

The crypt is dusty and stuffy, full of reanimated skeletons and creepy crawlies. Big pots and urns of people's ashes are stacked next to loose bones and cracked brick.

Also, the grass in the Pumpkin Patch was a little too smooth for me so I added some texture which cranked it up a notch I think:

And last but not least: added some flavor text when you encounter a boss enemy, to distinguish their fights from the normal enemies you encounter:

When the boss enemy dies, I created a special more significant knockout animation. On the smaller side I created a tutorial when you first launch the game, added some more detail to some areas, and started working on a couple of other boss sprites.
