The development of this project has been quite different from the development of my first game, FlappyFPS, which i released last year.
FlappyFPS was actually my first project ever. It started as an bad Flappy Bird clone, which i made in a single day for me and my friends. Someone gave me the idea to add guns and the ability to shoot enemies very early in development. After not even 2 days, the first version of it was finished. Over the course of the year, i updated the game from time to time. Added more enemies, pets and skins, a main menu and i even composed multiple different music tracks for the game.
After many failed, small projects, i decided to revisit FlappyFPS in October last year and wanted to make it an actual game. I worked very hard during that time and basically reworked the entier game. After two months of development, the update was ready, but i didn't actually do a good job. The gameplay was still completly repetetive, the code was a mess and trying to find something in the code was pretty much impossible, due to how badly organized the project was.
Chicken Island is completly different.
The code is better, the art is more interesting, it has actual gameplay! And all of that in basically 2 weeks of development. This project shows how much I've learned as a game developer during the last year and I think every second I invested in this game was worth it.
It may not have that many features yet, but I'm gonna implement one new ability and level and try to get a demo out before August. No promises tho.
