Howdy, everyone.
So I actually haven't made much of a post or anything to show that I've been working on this and at first I wasn't going to because of how ridiculous this game is. I mean, it's a game about an alcoholic trying to effectively stop themselves from going through withdrawal. But, I am actually taking the development of this mildly seriously.
Keyword being MILDLY.
Either way, I have done some major(?) work.
WEAPONS AND GAMEPLAY
I've been balancing how much damage enemies do and how much damage you do. I've also been balancing weapons so that when you finally get your hands on one, it doesn't overpower you or anything. Obviously, weapons are upgrades but not like... god mode. It's weirdly been a struggle because at first, enemies couldn't hurt you and you couldn't hurt them. But I've found a balance and it's worked out well. I might need to finetune the first enemy in game because you can take them on 1v1 but once it becomes a pair, you're outmatched. Again, it's a joke game but I still want to make it fun to play.
Along with that, I've just been trying to finish up the maps and add in the basic stuff that makes it worth going back and exploring. Quests, for instance, are a big part of that. I'm not really mapping them out ahead of time or whatever but I'm trying to make sure there's the quest and then a worthy reward for doing said quest. Like, if I gave you a quest that made you go halfway across the world and then gave you 5 gold for it, you'd be pissed. And rightfully so at that.
EXAMPLE: there's a dude who gives you a quest and when completed: he gives you the shop voucher that allows you to get your first weapon (minus your fists).
I really am focusing on what makes a quest / action worth doing. I want to make sure that if something is repetitive, or if something needs to be done, it doesn't make you groan or end up feeling like you wasted time to do it. Other than that, I've just been implementing all the basic shops and items. Stuff that can heal you, up your MP, all the basics.
THE SOUNDTRACK
Okay, I'm not going to sit here and say that I've made any original songs for the game. Since my focus is just learning how to properly use the engine (although if I do make my true project, it won't be with RPG Maker MV), I haven't cared that much about a soundtrack. My only real requirements for a song in the OST is that it's enjoyable to listen to and that's it.
I have posted the soundtrack thus far on the page. As long as it doesn't get taken down (which again, I created NONE of the music used) you can listen to it.
UPDATE: Added and will continue to add all credits due to the original songs and their respective composers in the description of the game.
Anyways, that's what I've been up to. May post an alpha or something soon but otherwise, see y'all in the next log!
