Hey there!
It's been a busy few weeks... But I'm glad to say, that I'm happy with how things are going with Oddventure. Sure, there are some minor things that are keeping me awake at night, as I'm trying to figure them out, but overall it's been good.
Anyway, I'm sure you guys didn't come here to read about how I'm doing, so here's what's been going on with the game!
We've added more animations!!! All the basic stuff is done. Whew... Now we can work on more serious things. Remember when I mentioned that there will be a mood system? You do? Great! Because now you'll know exactly how one of our oddventurers feels during battle, whether they get a buff or a debuff to their mood. Their avatars will either look at you with sad puppy eyes, or like a maniac ready to burst with laughter. Okay, maybe I exagerrated a bit, but you get the concept. Moving on. The next step is to fine tune the way the characters walk and run. Pixel-perfect smoothness or bust.
Now, have you ever been tired of adventuring in a fantastical world filled with stuff like angry dwarfs or centaur babies? Did you ever stop and thought: "Huh... I wish there was something other than a cool story line and perfectly balanced battle mechanics..."? Then i have a treat for you! Riddles! OK, I'm going to stop sounding like a cheap advertisement now... The last few days I've been sitting, trying to figure out a cool puzzle. Harder than I anticipated... You think solving riddles can be infuriating? Try designing one! Anyway yeah, we're adding something for you to think about in between sightseeing and defeating menacing foes. The riddles themselves won't be a main feature, but they'll be there for you to take a swing at, you riddle lovers! Riddle is such a fun word toy say. Riddle.
I'm going to sound a bit like a broken record, but we've also been working some more on the battle mechanics. I know, you heard it already, it's a painfully long process to balance them, every time I think they're good I find something more to fine tune, yadda, yadda, yadda. I'll be working on them untill the game releases, deal with it :P.
Lastly, I'd like to tell you about some things to come.
The work on the demo is going full speed. Every day we're getting closer and closer to show you guys a sneak peek into the full game. So, now we have to figure out how to implement the riddles, make the characters move more smoothly, add enemies into the world itself, make the world bigger (take that Columbus) and add more item icons. Sounds like a lot.. And yeah, it is... Sigh...
Oh, and I realised that mentioning coffee in those DevLogs makes me sound a bit corporate. So I switched to tea. See you in the next one. Stay Odd.
