Done for the day. I don’t think progress is very good. Spent a lot of time hitting bugs in the pre-existing code and making it do things I didn’t make it to do very well.

The goal was to get a dialogue window going today, but I got distracted by collision detection and input handling halfway through. Collision detection is being a huge dick right now.

The goal for tomorrow will be to get through collision detection issues and then either finish the dialogue window or get a tilemap going. Tilemap should be trivial, but it means I have to make tiles, which given my pixeling ability might be a significant demotivator. Guess it can’t be avoided for too long though.

I blame all bad progress on my failure to do any programming last year. Out of practice and don’t have much code I can reuse, and I don’t necessarily understand the libraries I’m using all that well. These are problems that should really already be solved before I try and make a game for a week-long compo.

Oh, and I made a barely-acceptable sprite for the main character, so that’s kind of nice. I think other characters are just going to be recolourings.

Been working lately on lots of 'behind-the-scenes' boring stuff that no one really cares about, so here’s a guy playing the sax for some reason.

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
