Hello, everyone! Philip Buchanon from Nyctobloom Creations here.
Soooo, yeah. I am now finished with reviewing all three Five Nights at Maggie’s games in the so-called “reboot” saga. There’s no announcement or anything for a possible fourth game in the saga, even though a very small part of me wishes there was considering there were four entries in the original paint saga and also four entries in the classic series. However, with how the third game ended, and how it shares a lot of similarities between the original final game, FNaM 4c, I don’t think there will ever be a FNaM 4r again anytime soon. Then again, we did end up having One Night at Flumpty’s 3, announcements for Jolly 4, Five Nights at Candy’s 4, as well as a release of a sequel to Five Nights at the Chum Bucket years later, so really, who knows?
Point of the matter is, Manuel Genaro is officially done with making more Maggie’s games, and possibly making more FNaF fan games as a whole. Now, what does this mean for me? What will I do next? I’ve been reviewing Five Nights at Maggie’s games during my time hereon GameJolt, is this where I stop? Well, not quite. While I never planned to make more reviews after the Maggie’s series, especially when I expressed several times that I’ve already lost interest with Five Nights at Freddy’s as a whole, with Five Nights at Maggie’s being the only FNaF related thing I’ve been “consuming”, things have changed…
During the wait between Five Nights at Maggie’s 2 and 3, I remembered that FNaF’s 10 anniversary was coming up very, very soon. And out of curiosity, I decided to check in on the community again, like I did prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve replayed classics such as One Night at Flumpty’s, watched videos of Five Nights at Candy’s, POPGOES, Jolly/Jollibee’s, and even had interest in newer titles such as JR’s, A Bite at Freddy’s, Tealerland, Five Nights at Leon’s Mary’s Arcade, Post-Shift, Project Readjusted, a whole lot more. And while I CURRENTLY have no plans to review EVERY fan game I just mentioned here, I do indeed want to review at least some of them. Here are the ones I currently have in mind.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 1, 2, and 3
Jolly 1, 2, 3 chapters 1 and 2
Five Nights at Leon’s 1, 2, 3, 4, and the remaster. (1-4 will be reviewed all at once, remaster will have its own review)
One Night at Flumpty’s 1, 2, 3, and One Week at Flumpty’s
Those are not in order, by the way. Like, I could review FNaF 1, and then review Jolly 1 next, and probably review Leon’s OR Flumpty’s, and so on. There’s no order, I’ll simply review whichever I come to first. Of course, I’m not gonna do something like “review Jolly 3 first and then review Jolly 1”, that’s dumb.
And even then, my involvement with Five Nights at Maggie’s isn’t even completely done! There’s still more to be seen. Manuel made a new recoded version of FNaM 1r to hopefully make the game more playable and less relied on RNG. Not sure if I will revisit FNaM 1r again, but who knows. Manuel might even be planning to do recodes of the original classic series, to also balance the gameplay there hopefully. Although, I’m not sure if that was entirely promised, so don’t hold your breath on that. Heck, not even just from Manuel! There’s fan made stuff too! There’s Maggie’s Mania by El Rafauricio, another reboot of Five Nights at Maggie’s that more closely follows the classic game from 2016, only with revamped mechanics that still share fundamentals to the original. Or even The Curse of Maggie’s by Dr. Kutejikashi, which is a more direct remake/”reimagining” of the classic FNaM game. Both of these upcoming games look AMAZING and highly encourage you to check them out! I’ll surely review them whenever they do hopefully come out!
Speaking of, I’m even planning to review some of the old Five Nights at Maggie’s stuff. I might review the paint series for shits and giggles, look at the old One Night at Maggie’s which I THINK is Manuel’s first “3D” game, and so on.
And after all those reviews, I might take a break from FNaF reviews, and maybe move on to other mascot horror games. I have had some interest in talking about Poppy Playtime and Indigo Park, I have… A BUCKET load of things to say regarding Garten of Banban, Joyville seems like an interesting little gem, I could try and say something about games such as Bendy, Tattletail, Amanda the Adventurer, Baldi, and more. Heck, I might spread my reach too. I might even review the more “mature” indie stuff like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Penumbra: Black Plague, SOMA, Outlast, Layers of Fear, Slender: The Eight Pages and maybe its sequel; The Arrival. Shit, why stop at indie? There’s the high budget games too! Resident Evil 7, Village, and the remakes, the remake of Silent Hill 2, the Alone in the Dark 2024 reboot, Alien: Isolation, The Evil Within, The Calisto Protocol, Dead Space, I could go on really. Heck, does it even have to be new? How about the old stuff? The original Resident Evil PS1 trilogy, the PS2 Silent Hill games, Dino Crisis, Clock Tower and Haunting Ground, Fatal Frame, the original Alone in the Dark trilogy, and a lot more. I don’t have to stick to horror either! I could review games from other genres. Namely FPS games like Half-Life, Portal, Quake, DOOM, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, etc. RPGs like Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, Chrono Trigger, Fire Emblem, Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi, and just so many more. Hell, I’ve been wanting to review platformers for a LONG while now! Whether it’d be the new stuff like Sonic Mania, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Celeste, Cuphead, Pizza Tower, Bloo Kid, etc. Or the old stuff like Super Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, …Bubsy, I could go on. Point is, I have many games I want to look at. Games that I’m sure are so obscure, that I want to shed light on! I know about SO many games, you could say that I’ve… Seen quite a lot to the point I could be classified as a chronically online maniac haha. I could even do video essays of these one day! Could give my dead YouTube channel more of a use!
To cap this off, I suppose I’ll say this one message to the Five Nights at Maggie’s community. I sound as if I’m saying goodbye to the community but, believe me, I’m not. I still have the aforementioned stuff to look at and look forward to. I hate venting and bringing up personal topics on my life, but just this one more time, I’ll give out some stuff to say.
Thank you. Thank you everyone in this community, who’s been reading my posts in these games. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I’ve been in a seriously awful mental state I hadn’t been a FNaF fan since… 2018, I think? Since the pandemic has been raging on, I decided to look back at my previous niche interests in fandoms or communities I’ve been in. I guess for nostalgia’s sake, to look back at the “better times” when I wasn’t ball-chained to my house. I, for some odd reason, looked at Five Nights at Maggie’s, a series that, at the time, knew next to nothing about, and only just randomly viewed it from time to time because it was always in my recommended page, and maybe played a game or two out of curiosity, but never completed any of them. I always thought the series ended in the third game from 2018. Only to be randomly surprised to see that a 4th game was announced. Of course, I got curious and looked at the GameJolt page, and I figured “why not”, and decided to follow the game for any updates out of nothing else but curiosity. The game looked more polished and professionally made than anything before it. It even scratched my itch of just having a basic fnaf game with refined mechanics, as opposed to the crazy stuff Security Breach that went against what I knew FNaF for, seemed like it was promising so I kept looking forward to it. And then it came out for both android and PC, played the hell out of it on both platforms, and despite the gemaplay RNG issues, I really liked it! It helped me become massively preoccupied during the pandemic, along with my new “Nightshade Creations” brand at the time. Which was especially helpful since, again, we were in a pandemic, my original comfort games like Among Us and Henry Stickmin were declining in popularity and relevancy, and my PC at the time only being able to run fully 2D games as it was reaching 8 years old at that point. Then the reboot was announced, and I got excited for that too! Along with Resident Evil Village, I also had another thing to look forward to in the still on-going pandemic and lockdowns in my country. I played FNaM 1r when it initially released, and I was WOWED by how much of an improvement it was when compared to FNaM 1c and even FNaM 4! And the rest…? Well, the rest was history! To sum up that history, I DID disappear after FNaM 2r and 3r for quite a bit, mainly due to mental health problems, and just being busy with school now that lockdowns were lifted, and because my only available devices at the time were heavily damaged beyond use. I did have a laptop and a phone, but I didn’t want to use those as they were mainly meant for school or other more important things, so I didn’t want to risk damaging them through wear and tear or something. I don’t know, I’m a paranoid man, I guess. But then again, said phone now has an expanded battery so, maybe my worries weren’t too out of place. Back to my point. While I will always consider 2r and 3r as the best games in the series, I will always have an emotional and nostalgic attachment to 4c and 1r. Yes, I have problems with them in terms of gameplay and RNG, but they’re one of the key things that helped me escape my shit time during the dreadful COVID-19 pandemic. I will always, ALWAYS cherish the series for that. Manuel Genaro? Thank you so much for making these games. I know you now have a job to work for, are now an uncle, and had major issues with depression during the development of 2r, and I can only imagine how busy you are. Thank you very much for Five Nights at Maggie’s, and I really hope to see whatever you make next! Whether Maggie related, FNaF related, or something entirely original. And thank YOU to the community for reading my overly long reviews, sharing opinions, and… Overall just being good sports. To everyone, I salute you. Thank you.
This is Philip Buchanon from Nyctobloom Creations signing off. Have a great one.
EDIT:
Okay so... I reread the posts. Turns out the classic series IS receiving a recode update too. And they're all also going to be on mobile. Including FNaM 3 classic. That very small niche of people who badly wanted a mobile port must be having a field day.
