Five Nights Trapped - July 2025 Devlog

Hi everyone!

Honestly, getting back into game development since I've had more time due to graduating high school has been fun! Especially since I'm focusing on Five Nights Trapped but there has been changes / improvements and decisions that are final or just testing the waters before a definitive decision is made.

First change, the office: In old videos showing changes, I've constantly changed the office. This was mainly because of lighting and animation. I want to make the game feel natural. Hence forth, I found a solution which may not be the best but being able to hide objects from the camera in Blender but not affect the lighting is nice! I am still trying to improve the office but I believe I have a start.

Second change, the mechanics: Truthfully, I want the game to be forgiving but a challenge. Not a challenge where the animatronics are abysmally fast but a challenge to deal with different issues which will be slowly introduced each night. Hence forth, there will be two "unique" mechanics for the animatronics which isn't a lot since there's only three characters. Yes, two of these mechanics are repeated, I.E. the camera flashlight where it may stun a certain character for a limited amount of time but can affect another character who'll then go into a new phase to attack you. This particular mechanic also brought back an idea related to the character that'll go away from the camera. The other mechanic that's also repeated is used on only one character and is only on two particular cameras and does the same thing but affects the character differently.

Third change, the game name: Lo and behold, the game is now back to just "Five Nights Trapped" as the subtitle "Above The Grave" has been dropped because it confused people and designing it in the logo wasn't easy.

Fourth change, the 5th night: I cannot say much so I don't spoil the game but I have debated on if you deal with one special character or the characters deform or mangle to some degree just for this night. This does have lore relevance and will determine will happen in the second game.

Fifth and final change, endings: This is an idea I'm deciding to bring back but better. The "bad" ending, if added, will be inspired by Together Again: A Lake's Funland Story's "neutral ending" and the ending to Those Nights at Rachel's but minus the whole "it was all a dream" thing. The "good" ending is a typical FNAF 3 "this place burns down" taboo but not really because of lore reasons that I will not spoil. This idea isn't final but is being heavily considered.

There has been a lot of struggles, thought, and ideas put into making "Five Nights Trapped" to be hard but fair, full of content, and enjoyable to anyone who are casual gamers such as myself to hardcore players.

However, on a small note, this decision isn't final but this is most likely to happen but Five Nights Trapped may go from being developed in Clickteam Fusion 2.5 to being made in GameMaker Studio 2. The reason being is because Clickteam Fusion 2.5 is partially because of the 2GB memory limit and having to buy a $50+ upgrade for the game to run and save faster. But, this is also and mainly because coding the game feels redundant when I don't understand what I'm doing besides clicking boxes with premade code. While I know very little about GameMaker Studio as a whole, I feel that it'll best suit "Five Nights Trapped" for being able to give me more control of the code and let me add a lot of things that helps give more gameplay and tell the story / lore. While I do love using Clickteam Fusion 2.5 to an extent and "Five Nights Trapped" was originally just a test game to teach me it for an old FNAF fan game I was working on, "Five Nights at Joshua's: Chapter 1", I feel that learning GameMaker Studio 2 will be beneficial for me to learn an engine I really want to learn and to make games like "Five Nights Trapped" and any sequels in the "Five Nights" series or any passion projects I'm working on be unique and for the fans.

That's all that's happened this month! I have been somewhat busy so I can find a job, learning to get my drivers license, and preparing to go to college for computer science which, funny enough, the community college I'm going to has a computer science degree in "Game Development" which is what I'm going for! Enjoy your day everyone!

This is the full office render for Five Nights Trapped, there might be some interesting renders to make here soon.

FNT Office (Footage from 5th August, 2024)

I've done some very minor work in the past two hours just rendering and adjusting things.

Ah yes, nothing like a dark office, no secrets to hide, no tragic past to discover. Everything is according to plan.

That's right, a visual overhaul is coming to Five Nights Trapped.

I got bored so I started remaking the office from One Night to Remember. (Check pinned comment for reference image.)

Hey y'all! I've finally sat down and remodeled Toothless! Here's some picture and renders.

Four hours later. -_-

Character 2 - She'll be teased when ready.
