It's very disappointing to say this, but FWADX has been canceled. I stress the need to jump into the reasons this was brought on, before I provide a deeper insight into some of the things going on in Team Nebula (My Fangame Development Group) and my personal life.
1: Overstuffed
FNaF World: Adventure DX had many improvements over it's previous incarnation. However, as the hiatus began, I started noticing many issues with the gameplay, the story, and even just some of my general ideas for the planned Update 2. I realized this game had become far too large and too complicated for it's own good. It was compromising what I originally intended to be a small, faithful remake, and turned it into everything I was trying to avoid.
I had planned to write Fazbear Frights like stories set in the world of DX that added to the canon, create another teaser game like Endless Evils based on Princess Quest, and even go from only certain cutscenes being voiced to over 80+ pages of script being voiced. We needed more models, more team members, more people I simply could not get. It was becoming just like Luminous Dark before it: too big for it's own good.
The only reason this became an issue was: deadlines. I want everything I do to be done at a certain time and although I feel I provided enough time for those around me I wasn't giving myself the same luxury. I had to finish the script by the mid-January. I had to have all the new animations done by the end of February. I needed the game to be done by the end of May. I was pressured and anyone who asked otherwise? I lied to them of course! I wanted to feel confident and show people I was serious about this game. That was only a piece of the problem at hand though.
2: What's Old Is Old
Here's the thing I think people who have followed me for long enough have figured out: I NEVER release remakes of any of my older works. Something bad always happens to them. Always! The only remakes I successfully released was a remake of the first FredBear & SpringBonnie game back in early 2016 and a remake of FNaF World: Civil War, a game that I didn't even make.
Truth be told I wanted to do something new. I wanted to try a totally different story with these characters. I even implemented a lot of that into this game! (See Reason 1 as to why that was a bad idea.) But truth be told, I feared people would immediatly assume I was doing a FNaF World: Adventure remake or that people wouldn't realize I WAS KAT-ULTIMA and say I was ripping it off. I was scared of a probability, as opposed to something more tangible. I caved in to what I thought people wanted instead of what I wanted.
I frankly struggled to figure out how to make this remake work because I wanted to stay faithful to the original. Frankly, I shouldn't have! The final boss feels out of place, the stuff with Browboy felt rushed and tacky, and despite it's sincerity so many scenes felt like writers room appeal to the mass garbage.
3: I Just Want To Do Something Else
During the hiatus I decided to try writing fiction. I ended up writing fanfiction but that's beside the point! I wanted to do something else. Game developing is something I can't do all by myself anymore. I don't have the same enthusiasm and love for it like I did when I was younger. I'm going to be 19 soon, I'm wrapping up High School, I'm looking to get into college. Writing is so much more enjoyable for me.
But that doesn't mean I hate making games, or FNaF fan games, I just wanted to spread out my creative juices to something more than the same scary bear game. It's all I've been doing for the last 7 YEARS. I have ideas, but because I was working on this game, I felt it was too risky to do any of them. Last month I started working on a series of fics to go alongside my Splatoon AU; Colors. Blood Red Summer, the first of them, is four chapters in and I've LOVED writing it. It's a breath of fresh air to just slap words on a page, not care too much if people don't get it, and just let it out into the world. It's not high art but I love making it. That's all I care about.
I want to make another fangame, a few actually! But I need to be smart about what I do end up making. There's still some hope something will come out of Team Nebula, don't you fear, but it's going to be a bit different than what I've done before.
So with all that in mind: What happens next? Well, I guess I'll show some things from Adventure that ultimately you wouldn't have seen.
Here's the new design of Compact Chica from Adventure DX. My sense of humor has healed in the last few years so I decided to make her something actually funny: Minecraft.
Jack-O-FredBear would have been the new boss for Halloween Hills (formerly Hallow Forest). He was actually originally being used in my FNaF World: The Return to Nightmares remake that I never formally announced. I edited his model heavily since then, but it's overall the same.
Taking XOR's place would have been the "Mirrored" animatronics.
This Animdude model was provided to me by Morigandero. He made the Animdude used in the original FNaF World: Adventure from 2019! It's a much better design. Plus? He still dabbed in this one.
Battle backgrounds for Toxic Wastes and Ice Cave.
For Toxic Wastes I wanted to tease at the upcoming original bosses planned for Update 2. So I developed the character of Mother Flan! Her designs are from oldest to newest. The sketch being her final design! The sketch was done by my girlfriend!
Another character planned to appear in the game. This is Celestia, Goddess of the Cosmos! She would have been a key character in the story for Update 2. She is Lord Void's significant other. He is a character that was integral to the story and was the main protagonist of the first teaser game: Endless Evils.
Album artwork for the original score done by Nitrosparxx and Martin Arthur for the Endless Evils project. The second cover was for Princess Quest, with music done by Aidan O'Flynn. The Endless Evils album art was done by Tea!
This was my sketch of the album art I made for Tea as reference!
All the bosses from Endless Evils! Minus the secret boss. I didn't draw him before the hiatus began.
There's tons of other stuff too. But this is all I'm willing to share for now.
The future is looking a bit better now that this is all away. I can focus on newer things, even some non-fnaf things, while still trying to bring you all unique fangame experiences. I will have new FNaF World fangames to share. Maybe even a FNaF Horror game like Yellow Rabbit. We'll have to wait and see! It's a long way back from here.
If you want to keep up to date, follow me on here or Twitter @EARPHONEJOCK!
If you want to read Blood Red Summer, my Splatoon fanfic, read it here! Viewer discretion is advised.
That's all for now. See you on the flipside! May will bring further news and announcements.
