A few months ago, I made a post about how Strings may be the protagonist in Evergreen. I no longer think he will be returning, which will be explained in these theories later in this article. Other than that, since then there has been a whole other segment of the game announced- the Post-Night Segments. These have you facing off against the "False" Animatronics. The protagonist is once again not confirmed, but this time I'm pretty sure the protagonist of these segments is Fritz Glade himself. I will also be talking about the Post-Night Mechanics and why I think Strings will not be the protagonist, or at least be heavily reworked.

1. The list of animatronics Kane has provided

This one should be obvious. All 5 animatronics here are TOYS, and who else to hallucinate the toy animatronics than Fritz himself?

2. The Post-Night Mechanics

I'm going to put this simply- I think the Post-Shift segments will take place in Fritz's dreams. The material we have seen and heard of so far line up, including the slow conversion of the Toys to the Falses, and a flashlight. This would line up with Fritz's experiences in FNaF 2.

Notice how the word camera is seperate from the controls, which suggests the protagonist in these segments can move around. Strings can't do that because of his security module. It would make sense for Fritz's uncured dreams to manifest in a nightmare in which he has to survive.

My current theory for the gameplay is a timed survival segment that takes place in a dream, in which Fritz moves around a place (perhaps the FNaF 2 Pizzeria) and shines his light on the Toy animatronics to stop them from converting into the Falses. This also lines up with how Kane said the segment is hard to program: Clickteam is not designed for free roam like this.

Deconfirming Strings as the main night protagonist

You may be asking: If Fritz is the protagonist, what about the Puppet? He doesn't appear on the list, so does that mean Strings cured Fritz's nightmares again, and Strings is confirmed to return? Actually, I'll let Kane answer this one:

This is BIG. This means that String's character is unecessary just like the rest of the scrapped cast. Kane could pull some serious bullshittery and have Fritz or Simon set up Strings to hallucinate the main night/post-night segments, but that would be a very weak plot point. As for who I think the main protagonist is now, I have no idea. I think it is a random security guard, as Kane would need to think of something clever to work Fritz into that role.
