He had organized a rabbit hunt for himself and his men as a celebration. His chief of staff gathered hundreds (possibly thousands) of tame rabbits for the event. But when they were released from their cages, instead of running away, the bunnies charged at Napoleon and his men, swarming them. It turns out that the staff had accidentally bought domesticated rabbits, who thought they were being fed.
So Napoleon Bonaparte, conqueror of Europe, was forced to retreat... from rabbits.
What a story.
