Just a heads up that I will be participating in the GameJolt’s 2-day New Year’s Jam by implementing a new JavaScript-powered media scraping system to SMAR•CADE.

You can expect lots of small news updates over the next couple days as a result of the Game Jam.

This new info scraping system will expand SMAR•CADE’s online media database system to allow end-users to add support for any site that they wish; you will no longer be limited to the hard-coded info scrapers for TheMovieDb.org and the Steam Store.

In addition to designing & implementing the JavaScript scraping system itself, I will create the 1st scraper to be used in the system which just happens to be for GameJolt.com itself.

• But what’s all this tehcnical BS mean to me?

It means that when viewing a game’s profile on GameJolt.com, you will be able to click a “Spawn in My Arcade” button to instantly place a fully-decorated 3D shortcut to that game in your virtual arcade.

It also means that this type of support can be added to ANY website, not only be me, but by any user even after SMAR•CADE is released.

So hang on to your butts, and excuse the surge of news updates that will be published over the weekend.
