Hello followers, welcome to the December Devlog of Hack’s Custom Night! I will be showcasing the progress I have worked on for the past month, along with a bit of developer commentary.
Revised Configuration Menu
A few weeks after the last devlog, I managed to revisualize the Configuration Menu like no other! While the technical aspect has been worked on for a really REALLY long time, I have not been able to get the visual aspect completed. I wasn't sure how I wanted the menu to be presented, as I kept adding more options and accommodations to make the menu more presentable. Back then, the number of settings was so low that the scroll bar wasn't added.
With that said, here is the presentation of the Configuration Menu!
Game Settings
Audio Settings ("Sound" is not final)
Video Settings
As you can see here, there is a HUGE variety of setting options. It ranges from changing the gameplay to altering your save data! Each setting has its own category, sub-categories, and background! As of right now, only Game, Audio, and Video Settings are finished while other ones are still in heavy progress. If you have any questions regarding the configuration menu, let me know in the comments!
Post-Night Minigame
For the entirety of Hack's Custom Night's development, I have mostly been programming the office gameplay, changing its formula multiple times with several mechanic tweaks. Needless to say, it was quite exhausting to work on it for 95% of its entire development span.
With that said, I wanted to add more variety to how the gameplay will expand from the office without making it less natural. Introducing... the Breaker Room minigame!
As you can see, it is still in its early stages of development with the room not being drawn yet. Interior design is something I don't like to deal with, which does hinder the game's development. However, I am doing my best to try and learn more about how to tackle it for the whole building.
The current concept for the Breaker Room minigame is required to charge/power up all room areas of the building. When you get a power outage during the office, you will be required to fix the power in the building with either two options, pay for the damage or fix the power in the Breaker Room.
The cost of the repair will always be a large sum to encourage the player not to waste any power during the office sections.
Now the other option, fixing the power, is free of charge with the cost of spending your time in the Breaker Room. Of course, it isn't as easy with certain threats that will hinder your progression.
With this in mind, you will not be able to play other nights until you fix the building's power. The idea of preserving your power is more important besides aiding your survival. The difficulty for each Breaker Room section will variate depending on the amount of point value you had during the office section, though keep in mind that the characters in the Breaker Room are different than the ones you see normally...
If you end up getting stuck during the Breaker Room sections, you will be given the option to lower the difficulty for each loss. I feel this could help those who aren't looking forward to the Breaker Room minigame, but if you feel you have any better suggestions on tackling this, let me know in the comments of this post.
Game Logo & Icon
For so long, I have wanted a proper game logo and icon to represent Hack's Custom Night. Being a bad graphic designer myself, I have asked for feedback from many people including the development group. Prototype after prototype, it was really difficult figuring out a proper design without any potentially misleading representation. However, with enough patience, I am happy to say that we have finally reached the proper logo and icon for Hack's Custom Night. I opted for a binary type icon and icon for the sake of simplicity.
Icon
Logo
Keep in mind that the colors used here aren't deemed final as of right now, as the construction and setup of both the logo and icon are what is important. If you have any feedback on both the logo and the icon, let me know in the comments what you think!
Game Page Construction?
The last part I want to get into with this post is the game page for Hack's Custom Night. You might be thinking, "what is going on?" To put it simply, I was not happy with how the game page was formatted originally. I felt remaking it would help refine the presentation of the game from the changes it has now than before. The description of the game page is finished except for the visual aspect, as they are still not up to date on how I envision the game page to be.
The game page was going to be done much sooner, however unfortunately, my schedule has changed significantly where it became harder to work on the game alongside other projects and ideas I have in mind. With that said, I really hope it does not lead to affecting the potential change of plans in how Hack's Custom Night will be developed, cancellation being the worst-case scenario, but I can't promise anything. Who knows, anything can change within this game's development. Maybe it will be done later this month...?
Conclusion
Overall, the past month of developing Hack's Custom Night was more exciting than it has ever been. Seeing this game's art and technical aspect becoming more finished and advanced, made me satisfied with its current product. I still have something to show you, however, they aren't ready to be presented. Who knows, maybe they'll be released later this month or something, I dunno.
Anyway, I hope you all like what I have done so far. Until then, see you all in the next post! 💜
