Happy 5th to Return to the Factory 2!


Weird to think how this game is already half a decade old, hell this game is almost as old as FNAW 3 was when i first released it. I'm just going to ramble about some thoughts/memories I have making this game:

  • Is this the only fnaw fangame still to not have "wario" in the title? curious

    • EDIT: shoutout to taf we love taf

  • The idea of making a fnaw 3 game like this back then was kind of a gamble, Dry Wario's model wasn't public at the time (this was around july 2020) so I wasn't sure if I wanted to make it yet. Eventually I edited a crappy custom version of a "skull wario" design that I would've only used if I was left with no other choice. Shortly after I made that though, the real Dry Wario was reuploaded on twitter, so I just knew I had to make the game at that point!

    • Briefly I also considered scrapping the fnaw 3 angle and making RTTF2 a FNAW2 remake instead. After all, that's probably what people expected anyway. I saved some images but never went any further with the idea. Some of those images were repurposed for Warioware intrusion a year later!

  • This game was the first (and kind of the last) time I ever attempted to compose music for any of my projects. I used a free trail of FL studio, where I couldn't save any project file at all, everything had to be composed in one sitting. The final results are... certainly something. Nowadays there's much more talented composers in the fnaw community (shoutouts to jenny and hockey)

  • I made the majority of this game in the middle of zoom classes. school during the pandemic was a wonderful thing!

  • the Study was planned to be a Patio, but not only could I not find a decent image for one, but also- why couldn't Edward just leave in that spot? The mechanic idea was still the same, but matches got replaced with a lantern.

  • If you've seen Tagey's RTTF Cut Content video I'm sure you know about the "-1" or "negative" nights cut from the game. I finished two of them programming wise but deleted the game frames for the final release. Some test copy somewhere might have them hidden away! And no I still don't fully remember who the 4th enemy was going to be

    • The ambience that plays in the 4AM section of Night 5 was originally made for those -1 nights, so at least something came out of it!

  • This game became my most stressful project during its second half of development. I quickly ran out of coherent gameplay ideas and I believe some of the Night 4 rooms show that (Bedroom 2 and Pantry stand out as not very well thought out to me). Night 5 was fun because that's when I stopped giving a damn and went crazy with it.

    • Mario's supposed to appear in the 4AM part of Night 5 but he doesn't because of a glitch, guhh oops! I actually only programmed three AIs for 4AM, one for each side, the game just randomly displays one of two characters per side.

Alright that's enough rambling, thank you to everyone who's played this game and the other RTTF games over the years!!

Next up

A FULL MAP of Hyrule (finally!)

And the patch is coming very soon, probably in the next couple of days. I've made over 30 changes in this update, so it's taken a while!

Sorry again for the slow progress theres a lot more that needs to be done for this remaster compared to the original version! Ill try to post updates a little more often :)

At last, Version 1.0.1 is out! The changelog is quite lengthy here!

Some of these fixes are an attempt as I don't fully know the cause of all of them. Let me know if they work! (or if there's any new bugs!)

(and YES, your save data WILL carry over!)
