Here are the frequently asked questions and answers for Undertale: Rewrite!

Undertale: Rewrite FAQ:

Q: Is this project an AU? Or is it a mod that resets Undertale?

A: First of all, it's not a mod, as this is a fan game coded from scratch.

You could say it's an AU, but I don't like that term.

We're more focused on the "game" aspect, rather than — or should I say, not at all on the "alternate universe".

Therefore, the most accurate description for Undertale:Rewrite is a fan game — but calling it an AU isn't entirely wrong either. After all, it's similar to a traditional AU, and some members of our team might refer to it as such.

However, you should remember — the most precise term would be to call it a fan game.

This project features a completely new storyline and character designs, making it more akin to an independent fan game rather than a reset of the original.

Q: What's the type of this fan game?

A: Continuity Change, Sequel.

Because the story indeed starts at the end of the original game's storyline.

But, the worldview of this story — is not starting from the original — the whole worldview, in some sense, has been "rewritten".

Most of the story, characters, settings, and some miscellaneous designs within the game have been "rewritten".

I don't want to reveal too much, but the first two tracks of the OST also hint at the direction of the plot.

If you're interested, you can speculate about it — I'm also interested in your guesses.

In any case, you'll understand when the demo is released.

Q: Is this a recent idea? Because I've never heard of this project before.

A: That's completely wrong.

Not having heard of this project before is actually quite normal, as this project has not undergone widespread promotion for a long time.

This project can be traced back to early 2019, when it was called "Character change". You can click [here] (This might be a website similar to Reddit) and [here] (This is an early promotional video) to see the earliest information about this project.

Of course, the designs published on these websites are old, and most have already been abandoned.

In 2019, the project underwent some initial designs and released some very early promotional videos and texts (which have now been deleted).

For a long time afterward, I was busy with my studies, learning coding, creating templates, and so on.

After 2020, the project was reset and soon after renamed to Undertale:Rewrite.

Starting from 2022, I've mainly focused on this project and began promoting it on Gamejolt.

That's the whole story. In summary, this project didn't just emerge recently; it's been around for a while.

In terms of the setting, I can assure you that the overall framework, storyline, and other designs have been thoroughly thought out, and the complete design needed for the first demo has already been finished.

Currently, we are working on the finer details, such as creating minor enemies and mini bosses, maps, levels, bullet patterns for battles, and music, in order to produce the game demo and OST.

Q: Are you looking for team members?

A: We indeed lack team members and hope to inject some fresh blood into this project.

Currently, we do have some people responsible for art, programming, music, etc... but not many.

If you're interested, we welcome capable and interested friends to help!

Feel free to chat with me (@Bli_AIk ) anytime, or join our Discord server, etc.

Of course, even if you don't have a specific skill, you can still talk to us about design — we're always willing to share some insights with everyone! This is also a great form of support!

If you want to contribute, you're welcome anytime, and we sincerely thank you!

Q: I want to translate for this game.

A: Welcome anytime!

If you want to create translations for the existing demo (of course, this will be after the demo is released), you can directly edit the game's language pack files. If you want me to help promote your translation, you can get in touch with me — of course, you need to have completed a significant portion of a region's translation, and your translation has already gained some recognition.

If you want to translate for a game that hasn't been released yet, then please contact me, and it would be best to join our Discord. You can contact me to form or join a local translation group. You can also communicate with members of a local translation group... if such a group exists.

Currently, there are no specific groups dedicated to local translations. If there are any in the future, it will be written in the game page's introduction.

Q: How is the progress of the demo? What are the highlights of your game?

A: It's in progress. After June 2024, I will have more time to devote to this project.

Like any fan-made game, our team members are working on this project in their spare time.

We will release the first demo after completing the Ruins section.

In the first demo, we will cover the entire Ruins section — not just the length of the Ruins in the original game, I will introduce them in detail here.

In Undertale:Rewrite, the Ruins section is divided into two main areas: "Ruins Interior" and "Ruins Exterior" (let's call them that for now).

The Ruins Interior is similar to the indoor scenes in the original Ruins area, while the Ruins Exterior includes the city area of the Ruins and the surrounding wasteland — similar to the area depicted in our current game page header.

During the game, players will face a hidden branching choice in their first battle with Toriel — stay in the "Ruins Interior" or explore the "Ruins Exterior."

This choice will lead you to different areas, each with unique plotlines, level designs, and mini-bosses waiting for you.

After this major branch, there will be smaller branches — you have two routes to choose from within the Ruins Interior and Ruins Exterior, respectively.

Whether it's the enchanting water flows and annoying traps inside the Ruins or the mysterious wasteland, abandoned industrial era city, barracks, industrial area in the Ruins Exterior... all of this will be present in this demo.

I believe you will be amazed.

Additionally, we will have new game UI, unique combat mechanics, and an art style completely different from the original *Undertale*... and there will be chairs you can sit on.

Of course, it's a long journey. It takes time... possibly quite a long time, but we're working hard.

Q: What game engine will this game be made with?

A: Undertale Changer Template based on the Unity engine. Of course, this template was created by me (@Bli_AIk ) personally.

You can click [here] to check out my template!

It's really cool. (At least, I think so, maybe, probably, who knows, I don't know)

Q: Can I create derivative works?

A: Sure, but there are certain requirements.

To avoid potential inappropriate impacts of derivative works on the original project, we have different restrictions for different types of derivative works.

Regarding small-scale derivative works, such as fan-made drawings, music, novels, etc.:

1. You can only create based on our publicly released content.

2. You need to clearly state that it is a derivative work. If possible, it's best to @ me and also @ the team members responsible for that part. I don't want this project to be misunderstood because of derivative works.

3. Please do not create unreasonable, illogical, or nonsensical derivative works.

Regarding large-scale derivative works, such as fan-made animations, games, etc.:

1. The three restrictions on small-scale derivative works apply here as well.

2. You must contact me for my consent. Of course, if I agree, our team members will also communicate with you.

Besides, you cannot use any resources from our project in your own projects. Unless you have discussed it with me and the creators responsible for those resources within our team, and we all agree, it's not allowed. Otherwise, this behavior will be considered theft, which is extremely unfair and quite bad.

If you want to use resources from our project in your derivative works, it's also best to contact the creators of those resources first.

The above applies to derivative works of derivative works, and derivative works of derivative works of derivative works, and derivative works of derivative works of derivative works of derivative works...

Q: Do you have a team? What's the team name?

A: Yes...? Or... no...?

The team responsible for this project is the Undertale:Rewrite Team, haha.

We haven't designed any special team name for this project; folks just got together to do something, and that's it.

Q: What are your future plans?

A: The current goal is to complete the first demo. This takes time.

Before the first demo is released, we will definitely publish a series of reports as a warm-up... but we currently don't have dedicated staff for promotion, so we're doing it ourselves.

Let's not rush for now, as we've only just officially started. I've been busy with my template before this. Along with academic issues, my daily life is very busy, and I might not be able to come online for half a month to a month at a time. The team members are also very busy. So, take it slow. This situation will improve after June this year.

Promotion on other platforms is being prepared, but our energy is limited right now.

That's the situation.

If you're interested in our project, I'm very grateful! But don't rush.

Believe that good things will happen in the end...!
