"Listen boy, you don't understand what it's like in the battlefield...it scars you...not just with swords and shields and arrows in your skin..."
"But...where else do scars come from?"
"They not only come from the wounds I carry from fighting on the frontlines, but the words I listen to, and the relationships I live."
"Sir...what do you mean?"
"Boy, my wife handed me her love with full intention of being my true love, and yet...one day I walk into the house to see she is gone, I worry, I scramble for my sword, expecting attackers and...instead I find a note that she's gone to go grocery shopping in the market a few miles north...well, she went to the market and she did come back, but I was asleep, the next day, she was gone again, she went back to the market, and the cycle repeated boy...do you know how difficult that can be?"
"I would...I would assume Sir, that- that that would beheartbreaking wouldn't it? she was what you thought was true love...and...she kept leaving you alone right? Sir...did you still love her?"
"I Loved her with all my heart my boy, but you cannot expect a warrior to use a cannon to swat a fly now would you?"
"what do you mean sir?"
"I knew my strength...and I knew how to use it...but my strength came from my love, and I was pouring every last bit of it into the battlefield while it drained from my heart leaving me hopeless as the thoughts of whether she would return would fill my head...boy, you don't get it...I gathered scars on my body and pain in my bones, blood in my mouth, and sweat on my brow...but none of it compared to how hurt I was to never see her...my beloved...she was around but so rarely...I couldn't take it and we simply stayed friends...the darkened skin around her eyes that I see when I visit tells me she misses my love but...I can't handle seeing her that way, and I also can't handle fighting without her, she was my glimmering hope and I lost her...but like I said my boy, it was never her fault, simply trying to provide for us all, a family...but I couldn't take it. It was over...I wish things had been different"
"Sir- will- will you ever fight again? What happened to your spirit? your cause to fight? did it die with the relationship too?"
"Yes. I'm afraid it did dear boy, I want you to remember something hm?"
"Yes sir! W-what is it?"
"If you are going to love someone, never try and...never try and grasp on to it when nothings there, when you have no hope don't try to chase it, just let it slip, and in time...your love will return for you, they will not fade away entirely, but your hope must fall to rise higher than the stars again, do you understand that my boy?"
"Yes sir! Thank you...for teaching me"
"Yes, Of course, now...I should head back to the castle, the party is waiting, and some rich mead might help ease the pain I feel in my heart"
"I'll see you soon Sir"
"You sure will my child, stay strong for me. One day you'll fight like me, and perhaps be stronger than I could've been, you are blessed, we all are, but only when we have a drive to fight for whats right, to chase love, don't let it all be luck in your favor my boy, chase your goals and let them be realized"
Here's a story...a story that is untold and unwritten, but passed down through a family's generations...this is the story about honor, and keeping your word...this is the ancient conversation 2 people had, one old and wise, the other a child...
