The Cake Place closed in 2015 after 3 years had passed since the show’s production staff left. Then, it was sold and a new Production Head was hired. As a result, the new Production Head started production on a new cartoon show that featured the Cake Place as its location. In 2020, May 8th to be specific, production continued on this show. Before this day though, the Production Head re-designed all of the show’s characters. This was because the show’s reception surpassed their expectations. Eighteen characters now exist in the Cartoon Buddies universe.

Johnny McCarthy is our main character. Despite his unassuming nature, he was fired from his job as nightshift security guard at the Cartoon Buddies Cake Place after he expressed a desire to work there. Johnny worked with Nick Smith, the current nightshift security guard of Cartoon Buddies Cake Place. Additionally, Miles Anderson, the current nightguard at Cat's Restaurant, worked with Nick as a prisoner in the prison's guard room.

Nick Smith knows that working on that location would be a good idea; he just doesn’t like the idea. Johnny had this idea because he remembered what he lived on in 2017.
