RIPPLE EFFECT │ UNDERSWAP

Hey guys, another smaller update regarding the game’s name

(Read the Article Please!)

Hey guys, Duud here. So you guys remember a while back when I had contemplated a name change for the game? Well, I think I’ve finally reached a decision

First off, why change the name?

One of the main reasons for this is due to the amount of people confusing this for an “Underswap Yellow” (go check out @TEPtheDev if you like that idea, but trust me his is better than you think) Also, the name just doesn’t make sense as a game name. This is due in part to the naming culture traditional to the UT community, with games being made with names such as Swapfellswap and ShiftShift, making no sense outside of their context (no hate toward these AU’s, just pointing something out)

I feel these two primary reasons properly encompass why I have contemplated changing the name of the game.

So you changed the name right? What does this mean for the game?

Luckily, all the changes a new name brings are all either positive or neutral towards the AU and game! Some of the positive changes include less obligatory focus on the concept of “Justice”, alongside us being able to refer to it as the “Yellow soul” as Undertale did with the “Red soul” Overall, not having the name being an indirect reflection of a stagnant concept or character really helps with the narrative in maintaining a broader story-telling ability, while not trying to “Justify” the title throughout the story (heh. Get it?”)

Alright, Alright! What’s the name?

After much discussion and pondering, I can safely say I have my favorite out of the possible choices presented as possible replacement titles. I can safely conclude that the new and definitive name of our little Underswap take is…

The Ripple Effect.

plain and simple. Nothing else to it.

…What the hell..?

Ok. Ok. I get it. Pretty far from your average Underswap. Here’s the thought process behind it to hopefully sway your opinion.

The Story

“It's a recognition that the positive energy generated by one act has the potential to set off a series of events that touch the lives of countless others. The small pebble of kindness you toss into the pond creates ripples that reach the farthest shores.” (thank you medium.com and google)

This is practically the thesis statement of Undertale. YOUR actions have direct and dire consequences . A ripple effect is caused by a small action, yet can lead to huge results (not killing the Froggit may lead to the entire race of monsters being set free) Anyways, you get the point.

The Protagonist

If some of you weren’t aware, our protagonist of the take isn’t Chara. We decided to go a different route. Atlas, as we have adopted them to be, is the scrapped human from Undertale who can be seen in debug mode exclusively when walking over the puddles in waterfall. (Has it clicked yet?) Atlas can only be seen through the ripples of that puddle. So ironically enough, Atlas’ existence is due to the Ripple Effect of players who just happen to be using debug mode and decide to walk through, not around these puddles.

In Conclusion…

Just to touch up on a few last minute things once more. No this will not affect gameplay, story, characters, or game progress at all. This change is strictly for trying to uphold the more subtle writing found everywhere in Undertale. Anywho guys, I hope I didn’t ruin the game for you… please feel free to comment on these changes if you want to. This is a fan game, nothings set in stone!

(P.S. you can still call this game JusticeSwap, or Undertale: Ripple Effect if you want!)

Hey guys, Duud Here!

Just a quick heads up, me and the team are discussing changing the name of the game for a few reasons:

New and improved Asgore design!

We combined features of the previous two to try and create a more “in-character” design that also maintained some of his previous royal attributes
