So let's begin with the goals I want to achieve by making this game. I've wanted to make a game like OMORI or Yume Nikki for a long time now since I've grown an extreme interest and love towards dreams and their nonsense. By this game, I want to express most of my feelings from the latest years. I want to express how alone, dissociated, and isolated I felt. Most of the game's lore will be based on the dreams I had and dreams my friends or family had. Yes, there will be original lore with all the characters since this game doesn't take place in reality but in a dream world of Riven (an original character I made up in my head). I can't really talk about the story of the game right now since I've only just started making this game, but it's a story about how Riven is slowly growing as a character, learning how emotions work and how it feels like to experience love, melancholy, loneliness, fear and more. But most importantly, he learns how a friendship works.
This game is expected to be long (4h - 8h). There will be no routes like in Omori or Undertale, but there will be 3 endings. Yes, there will be a snippet of what the real world looks like. But that's for the ending of the game. The engine of the game will be RPG Paper Maker. Since I want to add a little bit of the 3D aspect to be more original than the games I was inspired by. Since I think Yume Nikki is a great immersion game that can creep you out not only by the atmosphere but even with the music and the overall graphics. That's what I want to keep in my game as well. (just to clarify this game isn't a Yume Nikki fangame, yes it can be counted as one since Undertale is called a Yume Nikki fangame as well.) Although Yume Nikki is probably the biggest inspiration for this project. Omori still stands out more in this case for me. I love that game from the depths of my heart and I think it's the best game for me. I love the characters, the places, the music, the lore. Everything. Mainly the bosses are cool. That's why I planned out some bosses as well, but I won't spoil it for now. Midway through the development, I promise I will drop a demo for you all to play.
