After toiling away trying to find out how to get faux-3D platforming to work, I was finally able to find a good (and legal) resource to build off of (with some modifications here and there). Now the faux-3D platforming is implemented and working perfectly! Were it isometric, it’d be pretty much just like Super Mario RPG. Only thing is I haven’t gotten Bubsy’s animations to work right, so it looks a bit awkward. But rest assured, the game engine is actually working pretty great.
However…With all the features I have planned for the game, this will be a huge task to undergo by myself. I’ll actually need to get a programmer on board. Like, an actual programmer. Though I do dabble in programming a tiny bit, I am more inclined on the art, writing, and design aspects. So I’d much rather have someone more competent with programming to handle that to ensure the quality of the game… Y’know, without it being stuck in limbo while I try to git gud in yet another trade and the game ends up being released in 2027 or whatever. It’ll also mean I get to focus on making the art, writing, and design as good as I possibly can, while also being the best game director I can be. There’s just no possible way I can program this whole thing myself in a reasonable manner, especially considering my work that isn’t involved with producing this game. (It’s pretty much the same reason why I have my friends who are actual music composers handling the OST.)
I will have to figure out who I’ll pick though… This is a very important decision… I’ll keep you all posted when I do get it sorted out though.
But yes, other than that huge realization, the game’s getting where it needs to go and I’m super excited!
