Last post I made was 6 years ago, and last Slender Insanity update I released was 7 years ago.
It's been a really long time and so many things have happened and changed over these years. 7 years ago I left game development behind and eventually shifted towards programming CLI and TUI applications as well as more frequent image manipulation work and other quirky hobbies.
These last days I decided to come back to my roots and revisit my old games. I tried porting Insanity's project (Unity 5) into the current latest version (Unity 6.2) and surprisingly a lot of things still work except the very core of the game, it's broken and what works is messy.
I decided that I will rewrite most of Insanity from scratch, using the latest Unity version. Yes this does mean that this game might have an update after 7 years!
Insanity is very likely to suffer major changes, which means it will be as if it was almost a completely different game. Because of this I'm unsure yet if I will release this rewrite as an Insanity update or as a new game.
Insanity was originally made with storytelling in mind, having the story progression composed of chapters. This resulted in me taking the story too seriously while sacrificing gameplay when it's just supposed to be a silly Slender game I made for fun. I want modern-day Insanity to instead focus more on gameplay, easter eggs and fun than story, where each level is isolated from each other and varies in mechanics or theme. I also want to return to the roots and follow a more "yet another Slender clone" style with the typical "collect stuff" objectives.
I'm currently working on a prototype, rewriting the game's core mechanics. I'm unsure when/if I'll release an update but I'm working on it currently, I really want to proceed with this idea.
