The gm(48):Environment as a Weapon was a 48 hour jam where developers needed to make a game using Game Maker. The theme of this jam was “Environment as a Weapon”. There were many games entered in this jam, I recorded all of them in my video compilation series. Below are some of my favorites, in a random order.

Brain on the Junkyard has you bouncing around killing aliens! You are a brain, stuck in a glass jar. You have been living life peacefully in a junkyard. One day, aliens started appearing. They are really messing with the peaceful life you wish to live. You must destroy them. You are unable to jump, as you are in a glass jar, so you must use jump pads to jump. These jump pads, when activated, will cause all of the other jump pads to shoot up. If you shoot an alien into objects in the environment, they will die. If you hit anything, you will also die. Some aliens need to be squished directly by you. If the aliens make it to the portal, they will come back even stronger. You must fire things up strategically, make sure you don’t kill yourself and do not overuse those jump pads - they will break!

Furious Adventures of Faceless Golferman uses golf in a new way - to stop a giant monster. You figured it was a good day to go golfing with your talking golf club. That was until you hit a ball directly into a giant evil robot. Now, angry, it is chasing you! You must use the only skill you have - hitting objects towards the robot with your golf club. You can hit things out of the sky or off of the ground into this robot in an attempt to kill it off. With two achievements to win, this game is quite humorous and fun to play.

Max Burn has you stuck in space. You are an astronaut who is strapped into his command console. There are raiders onboard your ship, looking to take it over. You must use your thrusters to kill the raiders by running them into exposed metal. These thrusters only have a set amount of fuel, so you must be careful when you use them. Make sure you are patient so that the raiders are lined up before you use your thrusters. Do not let the raiders get to you - or they will kill you. This challenging game takes a bit of planning once you have found the exposed metal. Will you be able to stop the raiders, or will you run out of fuel and watch them slowly come to kill you?

Timber has you fighting monster plants using pieces of your environment! Plants have come to life and are looking to eat you. You must use different things around you or your trusty stick to defeat them. Hitting things like normal long grass or trees will drop wood and seeds. These items can then be used to destroy the monster plants. Each object does something different; logs roll a bit when thrown, seeds get thrown up into the air in an arch. With so many different items to gather and use, you must learn which object to use and when. Get to know which item does what, and defeat those pesky monster plants!

Vacuum Cleaner Go! has you hoovering up your environment and shooting it back out at your enemies! Many items in your environment - tree branches, rocks and squirrels - can be vacuumed up. You must then use these items to destroy your enemies or give yourself a jump boost. Your goal is to get to the green flag as fast as possible. There are little gems dotted around the level that will give you more time. Sucking up items or hitting enemies also gives you more time. You must avoid spikes and enemies, and make it to the end of the game as fast as possible. With many different levels ranging from super easy to extremely challenging, this game is sure to give you some challenge. Time jump boosts right, avoid enemies, and make sure your vacuum always has some ammo!
