Jam Favorites: Indies vs Gamers Part 2

More amazing games from the Indies vs Gamers Jam!

The Indies vs Gamers Jam was a game jam hosted by Pewdiepie, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, and Game Jolt. The theme of this jam was “Arcade” and each game had to include a scoreboard using the Game Jolt API.There were many games entered in this jam, I recorded all of them in my video compilation series.

Note, this is part 2 of my Indies vs Gamers favorites. Check out part 1 here.

Super Tyrone Land has you playing as Tyrone, a boy who has just left the hospital after getting treatment for his cancerous tumour. He is looking to buy ice cream with the last of his savings. That is, until a man in a wheelchair comes up and stabs him! Now Tyrone begins an epic quest to get his wallet back. This epic adventure has you running, jumping, and avoiding many obstacles to get to your wallet. Candycanes and cupcakes can be collected for a bonus to your score, but just staying alive is quite the challenge. With spikes, spiked wheels, and many different enemies, this game will definitely take you on a run for your money!

Arcade Planet has you building your own arcade! You have a limited budget, but with some planning you can build the best arcade in the town. You design your arcade by picking different games to buy and adding things like vending machines and decor. You can also hire people to maintain your arcade; like a janitor to clean up garbage or a security guard to make sure things are running smoothly. Dirty or unfun arcades will lose ratings and become unpopular, so employing these people is important. Remember, you have bills each month, like the electricity. If you do not make enough money to pay these bills, your score will become negative and you will lose. Make the best arcade you can and do not go bankrupt!

Jack the Digger is all about helping Jack get out of prison! Jack is trying to dig his way to freedom, but guards keeping coming along looking to stop him. You must press the keys A, S, and D as they appear over the letters. This will cause Jack to dig. If a guard approaches you need to hold down the W key to whistle as the guards walk by. Each level is timed and at the end of the level you must have a specific number of points (or more) earned. If you do, you will move onto the next level. Help Jack escape prison, it doesn’t matter if he is a good guy or not, he needs to escape!

TYPOP is a beautiful typing-based game where you must charm people into liking you. You are walking down a long path and sometimes you meet people going the other way. They will try to talk to you, but several responses will appear after their question. You must type the response that you think will charm them, in a timely manner. If you wait too long, or type the wrong thing, the character will lose a heart. Once all of their hearts are gone, they will slap you and move on. If you do charm them, and they turn completely pink, you will gain followers and points. You will also find funky glasses along this road that add more character to your personality. How many people will like you before you mess up?

Dragon Fightress is about a girl named Marleen. Marleen loves arcade games and spends hours playing them at the local arcade. Everyone respected her skill, except the bullies. They believed arcades were for boys only. One day, they planned on staying outside the arcade waiting for her, to beat her up. What they didn’t know was Marleen has learned how to kick some serious ass! Now, you must fight off these bullies with only a bat as your weapon. You can upgrade your weapon at gun shops, but this bat packs a punch. This game is in the style of a classic 2D brawler, where you are moving from area to area beating up enemies that come from off screen. When you have killed all of the enemies, you are able to move on. You can hit the arcade machine to send all of the enemies flying to one side. Can you help Marleen shut up those bullies one and for all?

RacketBoy is an adorable, endless bullet hell that has you hitting enemy bullets back at them. With your trusty racket, you must hit round bullets back towards the enemies. Cute ducks shoot straight at you, while blocks blocks stand in your way. Other enemies appear and shoot elongated bullets towards you. These bullets, because they are not round, cannot be deflected back. Power-ups can also pop up from time to time, giving you an extra ball or increasing your racket size. As you deflect bullets, the more you hit the same one the bigger and more powerful it grows. Attempt to survive this bullet hell, but only by deflecting bullets!

Tony Carp lives in a popular fishing lake, called Carp lake. Before, this lake was a great place for fish to bread. Now, it has attracted fishermen from far and wide, who are catching everything that once prospered here. Tony Carp will not let this stand. You must swim around the lake eating little fish to gain charge. Once you have a good amount of charge, swim quickly out of the water while aiming at a boat to tip the boat over! Doing 360s and barrel rolls to make your jump magnificent, send those boats toppling into the lake!

Insert Coin teaches you how to play a game on a budget! You tie a string to your coin, slip it into the arcade machine, then pull it quickly back out. After your coin reaches the end you must click repetitively to pull it back up. Each time you get another credit, the inside of the machine changes. Adding bumps to go over and red vertically moving rope cutters, makes this game quite challenging. The more credits you get, the more obstacles appear. They don’t call it a shoestring budget for nothing!

Mythical Graveyard Uprising is a beautiful game that has you fighting with random weapons! You are in a huge mythical graveyard, fighting off the undead. The only issue is, your weapons only have a limited amount of ammo. As you kill of these skeletons, ghosts and hell bulls, your ammo deteriorates. Dodging enemies can only do so much when you are out of ammo. Random weapons to help you on your way appear around the field. You must quickly adapt to the new shooting style of each weapon before continuing. Over time you can level up, move onto new areas of the graveyard and defeat much of the undead. How deep will you go into this graveyard?

Shushido has you making sushi using your karate skills. You are a cat, who spends their day relaxing, catching fish on the lake. You must catch fish on your fishing line which pulls your boat forwards. The more the fish you have on your line, the faster your boat moves. Rocks might appear above the water, which you must jump over. Once there is too much weight on your line you must switch to sushi chopping mode. This is a bit more action packed as you must hit the arrow keys to chop falling fish. If you miss a fish then you lose a life. This game even has rare fish and a multiplier to get a bigger score. What better way to make sushi then with karate chops!

Abyss of Failure is a game that works to break you down. You wake up with an impossible task awaiting you. Defeat all of the floors in this massive tower and make it onto the highscore table. This daunting task is one you will take on. With a gun and only one life, you must fight through each random platforming floor against monsters that shoot, roll, fly, and toss fireballs. This game requires great timing to destroy the enemies. If you kill an enemy, a multiplier bar will appear above your head. This bar will only stay for a few seconds so you need to shoot more enemies to continue to make it grow stronger. Remember: you must show this game that you can do it.

SpaceTeam Zed is an intense space game that has you exploring a mysterious planet in search of beacons. Many ships have crashed on this planet, though no one is sure why. You and your crew of two others have crashed here as well. Now you must collect 5 beacons from other discarded ships to get back home. At first collecting beacons is a breeze, that is until the dead start to come back to life. Zombie astronauts wake up from their dead slumber and start to fight for their beacons back. These zombies can jump, but you have a nice gun to try and kill them off with. This gun can overheat, though, so be careful how much you shoot it. If the crew member that you are playing runs out of life, you switch to the next crew member. Each one is a bit different: one is fast with only a few lives, one is quite slow with some extra lives and one is normal speed, with a normal amount of lives. Try to save your ship and get back home.

Claw Champion Earth has you competing for claw machine prizes! You have a couple of tokens and a love for the game. First, you head to the arcade to try and earn some more tokens. You know that tokens are a form of worth and can make you a champion. You must use your claw to grab expensive prizes and put them in your side. Bigger prizes, like cameras and stuffed toys, can get stuck and may have to be adjusted before they go down your side. Sometimes the value is worth it. As you keep playing more people, you earn more tokens. You can have a maximum of 4 tokens, acting like lives. If you lose, you will lose your tokens. Over time you can become the token champion, if you have the skill.

Super Excellent Shopping Arcade Fetch Quest has you trying to make the most money as the store closes. The mall is getting close to closing time, yet everyone still needs items! If you fetch the right items for each person, you will gain coins. You also need to get the items you want (the exit door items) to be able to leave the store The problem is, with items everywhere, people only give you a description of what the item will be used for and the item’s silhouette. Figure out the fastest route to get the most items delivered to the person who wants it, in order to make tons of money!

Dancy Bones has you proving that skeletons are not the only ones with wicked rad dance moves. Skeletons have a sweet sense of dance, but not as good as you. With a not-so-great disguise, you must try to replicate the dance moves they do before they figure out that you are not one of them. In the middle of the screen, there is a circle that will show which arrow to push. If you push that arrow fast enough, keeping the rhythm up with all the skeletons, they will not know you’re human. If you start to slip up however, they will soon know the truth…

StarDuck has you taking on everyone’s personality. A group of children have gone to the arcade to play the latest game StarDuck. This is a simple shooting, jumping, scoring game, all on one screen, with fixed platforms that may be different each time you play. Each time you die, the next child in line starts playing. However, the children playing these games each have a different personality. Because you all only have one coin, you must share the experience of the game. Some characters are a bit anxious, causing the character to twist but shoot faster. Some swear a lot or talk while others are playing, causing voice bubbles to appear in front of the screen. One kid even sneezes snot onto the screen while playing… EW! Figure out which character you are best at, and try to get the highest score in the game.

Snakemanoids is an arcade machine that you found in the basement. This arcade machine works, though it does have some interesting bugs. This game may start off as one game - like Pacman, but then randomly switch to another. Switching between Pacman, Snake, and Asteroids makes the game quite challenging. The seamless blending, causing you to gather the objects in the same spot, but in a game-specific fashion, really add to this game. Everything from one game stays in the same place when switching to the next, the only thing that changes is the gameplay and graphics! Try your hand at playing these three retro games!

Popcorn Chef challenges you to be the best popcorn maker in history. You are given different sized and shaped jars. In each jar, you must put the right amount of popcorn kernels, so that when popped they fill the container up. Popcorn expands once it is cooked, so you must learn to judge how much is in there. Sometimes, jumbo kernels will appear. These will become jump popcorn! Each time a piece of popcorn or the lid falls off a container, you gain an X. If you get three X’s in one round, you lose. If the popcorn does not hit the points shown on the lid, then the container is not full enough and you also will lose. How good are you at cooking popcorn?

The MaskShow Arcade is a crazy Japanese gameshow that you are lucky to take part in! This show is trying to kill you. You stand on a platform in the middle of a field of spikes. If you fall off, you lose a life. Lights are focused on you and follow you as you move, but also shoot bullets that can kill you. Rockets fly overhead, to be shot for coins. Bomb creatures fall from the sky, running around looking to be shot before they explode. Sometimes huge weights fall from the sky, trying to crush you. You must survive on only three lives, collecting as many coins as you can before this chaotic game show is the death of you!

Indies VS Gamers 2084 is a classic, brought back especially for this jam. Based old school game Robotron 2084, this game is full of challenge. Three famous Let’s Players have been captured by the Independent Super Computers and are trapped in the game. You must save them and kill enemies to move on. This action packed game is filled with wave after wave of enemies. However, not all enemies have to be killed in order to move onto the next level. You must save the Let’s Players (and sometimes their pug) to move on. As you go through each wave, more enemies start to spawn. Some become stronger, racing towards you instead of randomly moving around hoping to hit you. Can you make it to the scoreboard of this intense game?
