The International Love Ultimatum Jam was a month long game jam where developers are challenged to make a dating sim. The theme of this jam was to explore different ways of conveying the concept of love in video games. There were many games entered in this jam, I recorded all of them in my video compilation series. Below are some of my favorites, in a random order.
Space Cat Boyfriend is a humorous game about some cats from outer space. After being dumped by your boyfriend, on your birthday no less, a spaceship full of beautiful cats has crash landed into your backyard. It’s a good thing that you love cats! These cats even speak English. The four cats, from the planet Felara, are instantly curious about the cats on your planet. These cats have the same genetic make-up as the space cats, but for whatever reason cannot talk! Now, with their questions and futuristic technology, your birthday will surely be one to remember.
Amity Bound has you taking on the role of a traveling carnival preformer… until your boss has a better job for you. One of the members of your traveling carnival has passed away recently. Now there is no one to recruit new members for the traveling circus, so it is up to you to find hidden talent in little farm towns you visit, which is no easy feat. After a long day of scouting out the locals it seems that no one in the town would want to be a carnival worker. It’s no big deal, as you will be exploring a new town the next morning, that is until your train breaks down. Now you are stuck in this small town for who knows how long… You must bond with the locals and find some people to join your gang.
The Draw puts you in the place of Eulia, a college art student who is just looking to sketch for her class. She is very focused on her work until a soccer player named Mel catches her eye. Now, all she can think about is Mel. After some small conversations, Eulia’s sketch book gets ruined in a puddle of water by a ball that Mel kicked. The choices you make in this short game affect the character’s confidence. Whether or not Eulia and Mel are meant to be together depends completely on the confidence you build for her.
Food Court has you moving to a new town, with new people, and not many belongings. Each day in the new town is full of adventures. In this silly little game, all of the characters are food! Thats right, from french fries to pieces of purple candy, everyone you interact with is completely edible. This game is still in a demo state, but it is pretty fun seeing what these foods are up too. You might even end up joining clubs, fighting with annoying foods, or waiting tables, depending on what you choose. With two complete days to explore, you never know what you will run into!
