Jam Favorites: One Game a Month; November

Check out some neat games made in November 2015!

The One Game a Month is a monthly game dev challenge with an
optional theme. This month’s theme was “Prose”. Many, many games are entered in the One Game a
Month challenge every month. I decided to play all of the games that were entered in the month of November in my video compilation
series.
Below are some of my favorites, in a random order.

Tankshot is an online multiplayer game that has you battling out your armies. You and your friend each have a handful of tanks, cannons and soldiers to move around the playing field. You are looking to destroy the other player’s army by moving your weapons close to theirs and attacking. Once your weapons are ready to attack, a small cutscene will appear showing off your power over your enemy. Your enemy will have to watch, on his turn, as you destroy some of his army. These cutscenes, as well as the fast gameplay and chat feature, really complete this multiplayer. It is a simple concept, impeccably done.

A Goblin’s Xmas Tale is a hilarious Christmas game about a little Goblin who shot down Santa. Santa was looking to get rid of the ghosts that are spoiling the holiday. This goblin is full of personality and is not necessarily on the nice list. Since you shot down Santa, it is up to you to destroy all of the evil spooky candies so that they do not kill you. Many different candies will start to attack, each moving in their own way. You must shoot bullets upwards and bounce them around the area to kill the candies. If you control the goblin badly, he will shout at you and tell you to get your act together. This goblin is really quite opinionated and he knows he is in a game, so it adds quite a bit of 4th wall breaking humor to this Christmas game.

Spaceball Pinvader is a short but fun pinball and space invaders mashup. This beautiful game has you bashing balls up towards the space invaders moving down towards you. Just like in pinball, you have to use the triggers to keep the ball in the air. If the ball falls through the gap, you will lose it. There is only a limited number of balls, though if you hit enough invaders in a short amount of time, charging up your combo, you can gain another ball to play around with. After you complete a level, the invaders get stronger - requiring more than one hit to destroy them. Keep pinballing your way to victory!

Mystery Mess is a short mystery game where you are the detective. A murder has occurred on Halloween. You must look for clues, talk to people, and figure out who killed Mr. and Mrs. Goodvels. They were killed in the kitchen of their home. It seems there was a lot at play here - bills piled up, lawn untrimmed, son’s toys in the back yard. You must search the area and document anything that you find to be a clue. Once you have found everything, you are able to talk to people that you have unlocked. You can then unlock more people and point out who committed the crime. This game has a couple of twists and turns, so it might take a few tries.
