January Development Update

Hey everyone.

Been a hot minute since we've done one of these, but it was best until major significant progress was done so we could have more cool stuff to show off, instead of in small increments over a longer period of time. Let me be the first to say just how proud I am of everyone who has contributed to the project. Their hard work and passion definitely shows, regardless of what goes on behind the scenes.

Being in a team no matter the size can always be beneficial, so you have eyes looking over your shoulder at all times to make sure you haven't scuffed something up. It's something I'm eternally grateful for on a personal level.

Anyway, you're not here for small sentiments; you're here for the goods and we got just the thing!

As Zeriq has alluded to previously, this is the first introduction of the "day segments". Here, you get to explore the pizzeria form the perspective of every missing child at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza before the events of the nightshift take place. You will learn what led up to their disappearances, who was there, and how the subsequent days play out as a result of the previous ones' events. Because of the game's pacing being a case of 'night first, day second', the game is divided into "Episodes" and as a whole equals to a whole Season.

Of course, there are five episodes overall with new characters and animatronics introduced. Some are much shorter than others, with Episode 5 being the longest out of all of them. This is our answer to post-night sequences/minigames in a lot of FNaF-oriented media; a visual novel-styled adventure in the eyes of a child, of whom the Fazbear brand was aimed toward.

Of course, the fantasy and fun aspect is just the surface for the darker truths buried below. There is a lot to unpack with these characters and you may even get some new backstory into a few fan favourites! Hell, even some backgrounds are pre-rendered images instead of artwork pieces to sort of allude to the magic of the place disappearing over time.

Bunny Man has been in development since June 2022, this version of it has been in the works since September 2023 following the hard drive failure of my old PC. In the past few months, we've made WAY more progress than before and in-turn with the habit of double and triple-checking everything works, it has been a smooth and mostly issue-free process thus far. This game for me is a personal learning experience, since it's my first time touching the visual novel genre, and considering it is most of the game's runtime (not including the optional custom night), it has been my favourite part of the project.

It is quite a short experience if you don't die and find the most direct route to progress in the day segments, but it does have plenty of lore and secrets for all you Easter Egg/lore enthusiasts out there.

And in terms of what's next to do:

  • Fully start and finish day 5.

  • Add the additional lore-based cutscenes and endings.

  • Add the extras menu.

  • Lots and lots of testing. (Team effort, yay!)

We're not going to give out any release dates or raise your hopes up. As a team, this is our first proper project and while it might not live up to some of the unrealistic expectations of the community at-large, this is something we enjoy creating and if we come back to do anything else after Bunny Man is done, we'll look to improve in any areas we agree need it.

It's been a long road and we still have a ways to go yet, but it really is shaping up to be something cool! Now, I think that's about everything we can share at this point.

Until next time!

  • Dr. Cross

What did Fritz Say ?

Spent about a week modelling a Springtrap while doing other stuff.

I'll probably redo the FNaF 1 gang at some point, since I'm trying to catch up with the models I'd done months ago, starting with the one from before my old PC died.
