Let's look into a comic that inspired Liberated... and cyberpunk in general.
The Long Tomorrow is a short story made out of boredom when the work on the cancelled Dune movie was halted. Dan O'Bannon (who would later write Alien) and the comic book legend Moebius, both from Dune's art department, created an iconic story of a investigation in a city of the future.
It's classic noir in sci-fi clothing, and even though it's colorful, it's also extremely dark. Give it a shot if you get a chance.
