Looking Back

Alright, so it’s been well over a year and a half since I uploaded this game to the site. Goodness, how time flies. To think it’s almost 2015.

As expected, I still look back on this game from time to time to see how far I’ve come since I uploaded this game. Since then, Neither Dimension Spark ‘nor Super Anjelo Land 2 (both this game’s successors) have been released, making this game’s situation more of a “the Hobbit.” Also, there’s been some shifting within the canons of those games.

But, to really look back we need to get down to the nitty gritty and see what I’ve learned from the mistakes in this game. For one, the sprites are pretty… eh. The outlines are thick and jagged, and I used the color scheme of an emulated Gameboy Game instead of one that feels more authentic. Where’s the olive green, dangit!? The coding in this game ain’t the best, either. Enemies and even the player have a tendency to glitch up and get stuck, and some things don’t even work the way they should. The design is a little all over the place, too, especially in the controls department. I mean, what was I thinking? Low-traction high-speed controls don’t go in a Gameboy game. That’s absurd! It’s slippery! And don’t get me started on the leaps of faith. WAY too many to count.

That said, I still appreciate this game and the time I spent making it with Anjelo. I’ve learned a lot, and feel like this game was my starting point into finally being a respectable artist, and I have learned valuable lessons about what game design truly means.

…It almost makes me wanna update this game to iron out it’s faults, y’know?

Also, I’m reminded that I never did get that Android version done. I’ll have to consider that, eh?
