Major update in the works

NSaF now has a discord server. I’ll be posting updates, previews, and general information. Come chat! https://discord.gg/JRJpwZK

Some of you may have seen the poll I had posted about a month ago, asking people if I should update NSaF: R with new graphics and gameplay. The truth is, either way the poll went, I was going to make an update, I just wanted to see what people thought of the idea.

When I made NSaF (and NSaF: R) I intended there to be a direct sequel involving the toys (hence Golden Toy Freddy and Shadow Toy Bonnie), but the actual sequel very quickly turned into it’s own thing. Personally, I like NSaF 2 more, it has better graphics, original gameplay, and a tense atmosphere that overall puts NSaF: R to shame.

I’m still deciding what to get rid of, what to keep, and what to add for the update, but here are some general notes:

  • removing perspective obj:
It looked bad and didn’t affect the game positively; it was a useless waste of ram.

  • re-rendering models:
The models and textures in NSaF: R are hideous and hurt to look at.

  • removing the back of the office:
It served it’s (pointless) purpose in this version of NSaF: R, but it’s a useless waste of file space.

  • adding characters from NSaF 2:
The toys’ have painfully slow AI, and all work the same, I want to change things up a bit.

  • adding new mechanics:
I’m adding NSaF 2’s characters, they will not function the same way as the toys’, they have their own mechanic(s) <- still working on those

  • giving purpose to the flashlight:
The flashlight effect, while an interesting idea, was ugly looking and didn’t really change the gameplay, the major update is giving the flashlight purpose.

  • re-thinking the music box:
This is still a remake of the original NSaF, and while the original NSaF was flawed, I can’t just completely write out what it was, I should keep the music box to stay faithful to the title “remastered”, but I want it to work in a different way.

  • Adding a “more ways to play” option:
I got many complaints about the lack of a custom night in NSaF: R, the truth is, there can never be a custom night, I’d have to completely re-code the toys’, something I don’t want to do and don’t have the time for. Display mode was merely just a bunch of display settings that allowed you to see various bits of the code as visual objects, but it didn’t really change anything. The “more ways to play” feature will contain different settings and challenge modes that completely change the gameplay.

I’ve already refurbished the office, it’s likely to change again, but here’s a shot of what it looks like as of now. Note the better flashlight texture, the wall texture, the lighting, and the new door and light buttons.

It just keeps getting better and better.

I was working on installing drop down menus and I get an error on some old code for "REMOVE THIS CODE ONCE DROP DOWN MENUS ARE CREATED."

Thanks, past me.

Working on the better camera shader.

Full lens, CCD, and transmission emulation.

QOL features are harder to design than actual gameplay stuff. Been working on configuration and settings in SP all summer. Mind you actually porting the main gameplay stuff from Clickteam only took 30 days.

Localization efforts have been expanded to more areas of the game. Instead of just important buttons and labels on menus, I am now having as many elements as I can translated.

Literal bug-turned-feature. I am gonna make this happen if you try to move the window while there's no camera feed.

Newest draft of composite video shader fixes color issues (caused by different versions of GLSL clamping values differently) and uses real sampled CCD sensor thermal noise. See for yourself!

Game.

First stable version of new multi pass shader ported. Paired it with a lower resolution and era-appropriate aspect ratio for vibes. (and to make sure the shaders scale properly)

Also shows off some of the enhanced entry area.
