Maniac Mania Infinite - A change in development, possibly for the better.


Hello all, it's been a while since I wrote a dev log about the current state of the game. Let me first state that the game has been struggling for a few weeks, and it's getting harder to work on the game, however looking at the options and saying some very regretful comments about development and what should change, me and the team have finally found out how the game should be released and developed.


How will the game be developed?

When starting Maniac Mania Infinite, I wanted to release it the exact same way as the original, as a complete game. This is something that most FNaF fangames do, and I now personally think this is the incorrect way to develop this game, considering it's gameplay as style.

Maniac Mania is not a 5 nights based fangame, it is a sandbox. The game since the start was designed to be a game where you create your own custom nights, this gives a chance for a better way of development.

A Roadmap.

The way the game will be developed will be like how some early access game work on steam, a version of the game that will be constantly updated every few weeks, adding new content until the game is complete. Each update will add a new piece of the game, the DEMO can be considered 0.1 in this case, and the new build of the game will be 0.2, and onward.

We had a few options, and this was the one we agreed on the most, here are the pros and cons for you to make your own judgement upon this plan.


Pros

  • The game can be worked on in a more controlled manner.

  • Each update can get a lot of feedback that can be fixed in patches or in the next major update.

  • It means more frequent releases.

  • This lowers stress for the team as they do not need to jump around different things constantly.

  • This can increase hype and keep interest high.

Cons

  • Some but very few suprise factors will be spoiled, however major things will NOT be added until the END of development.

  • Each update can be a different size, meaning an update could be massive and awesome while another is a little lack luster.


So, what do you think? A majority of the team agrees this is the best approach for the game, but I never turn my nose up to how the community feels.

The next update for the game is not clear, but I will make a plan and annouce it soon!
