March Dev Log 2023

(also, please read before voting for context and so it's more accurate as it will affect the game. If you don't wanna read it all you can just skip to the "Poll" section near the end)


Introduction


Sup! This is the first official dev log for the game, StorySpin: a punny encounter. I know it's only been a few days since the project started, but I do have a good bit to show to be fair, so let's dive in!


Sprites


So far I have a part of the intro made (my name)

*I also coded it in, and it has SFX and stuff to go with it so it's cooler than it looks here

*Also at the end the little white speck under the soul is supposed to disappear, I'll fix it later on and probably show it in the next dev log

I also have the Frisk overworld sprite (just need walking sprites and I'm all good)

And finally, I have sans' design idea (also in the thumbnail of the game)

Story progress


I don't have a story written down, but I do have a rough idea in my head I'll likely put down in next month's dev log. In the game, you choose from LV16 to LV20. Sans will fight you on all routes and judge you for whoever you've killed, but there'll be different endings on the lower LV routes. Also, I don't wanna spoil too much about the endings, but I'll hint at one of the secret ones I'm planning: There will be a good bit of re-playability.


Music


I (roughly) need about 10-ish songs for the game (e.g. ambience, menu, credits, fight theme(s) and etc.

Some I'll borrow/edit from the original game (for example, I'll reuse sans theme but I'll probably slow it down a bit or make it seem darker some other way).

For the fight, I'd like to have some original music for sans instead of stealing from YouTube like a majority of fangames do nowadays (no offense), so I'll try my best to learn how to make GOOD music... that, or I'll get a musician, depending on how horrible my tunes sound lol.


Future Plans


I have some plans for the game so far. I don't know if I'll be able to implement them all, at least in V1, but here they are in case your curious

  • 3-5 endings (almost definite, easy enough to code)

  • Optional Undertale battle system instead of Deltarune inspired one (unlikely, time consuming/I'm lazy lmao)

  • Filters for sprites (50/50 - depends on how messy or neat the code is)

  • Overworld (definite, will be programmed before fight)

  • AU cameos/Easter eggs/References (Likely, e.g. AU character's randomly appearing in overworld (inspired by PS!Outertale/Project Spacetime, check it out it's a cool game that makes breaks from the "reskin" aspect the AU is normally given)

  • No-hit/item/other challenge mode's (definite - can code it in 5 mins tops)

  • Trophy's (likely, I have experience coding them on unreleased projects on my many alt scratch accounts, lol)

And that' all I got off of the top of my head, but if I think of any more I'll be sure to put it in next month's dev log.

Ok, so here's the fun bit about the dev log: The poll. Quick summary of them:

These will be a fun way for you guys to help change the outcome of the game, for the better of course. I will ask a question each month, and the poll will last 14 days( so basically every 2 weeks you'll get something from this little old page to look at)

Do you like the overworld sprites as they are now, would you like me to just use the original Undertale overworld sprites (but re-skin sans to look like his current design), or do you want me to make new original overworld sprites for them?
