Both were humans at one point before dying in the 90's during a gun fight. Dingbat Gaston (Serif's dad and Bold's uncle) Resurrected them but was zapped by his own lightning, but he was ok until being killed by a falling couch with Serif on top of it. The cousins then proceeded to steal 30 dollars from Gaston's wallet and went off to buy BBQ Sauce and hot wings. Gaston now haunts them because they owe him 30 dollars and he can't pass on until the two fuck ups give him his money back.
