If you don't know, modding a 3ds is a kind of tedious process, it's a lot of plugging the SD card into a computer, taking it out, plugging it into the console, taking it back out and so on and so Fourth.
Doesn't help I kept making the same mistake trying to download GM9 and Luma3ds (custom firmware for the 3ds) which definitely made the process longer because I had to format the SD card like 3 times
Then there was the time the SD card just corrupted- luckily I made a backup BEFORE I started, so it was easy to fix, but definitely annoying.
Would I recommend you do this to your 3ds?
That's a complicated question. If you are happy with the base functionality of the console and aren't interested in anything along the lines of custom firmware, custom themes, online functionality and things like the Hshop (basically the Eshop but free since the Eshop shut down on the 3ds), don't. It's a tedious process, especially if it's your first time modding consoles. I'm fairly good with tech and I faced so many issues and a LOT of stress with the console throwing error codes at me left right and centre for about an hour. While it is definitely one of the easier consoles to mod, that doesn't mean things can't go wrong.
If you want things like custom themes, firmware etc, then sure, go ahead, but MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR DATA (EVERYTHING ON THE SD CARD) BEFORE YOU START. Doing this quite literally saved my console and save data. It means if you brick the console during the process you have a point to go back to, because once again, especially in the early stages of the process ANYTHING can go wrong. My entire SD card corrupted and if I didn't have that backup saved I would have lost about 3-4 years of game data.
Also, make sure you are using a reliable guide. The ones I used are ones that have been tried and tested and are trusted in the 3DS modding community, these are:
I can also vouch for these resources as it is what I used and as you can see it worked
If anyone mods their 3ds and has any questions, I'm more than happy to try help or direct you to somewhere that can :3
It was a super long and annoying process but in my opinion it was definitely worth the effort
