MONTHLY DEVLOG #1 (11/07/2019)

Hey everyone, Blankface Studios here. Today we will be answering questions that you guys may or may not ask about. Let's get on with it.

Q1:

What is this game?

Lock Away is a Silent Hill/Resident Evil inspired horror game developed, as of now, by me. Even though I have made **literally nothing** in my life yet... Who knows? I might get talented and this game may actually be great. Not as great as the first 4 Silent Hill games but still.

Q2:

Do you have any experience on horror?

Well, this will come off as a turn off, but other than making Five Nights at Freddy's fan games from a different account (more on that another time), no. No, don't worry. I won't add non stop jump scares or any unnecessary chase sequences or a lot of moments where you just walk and walk and constantly scramble through areas to find notes that will be vital to knowing the story. I do have a few tricks up my sleeve, but I will save them as a surprise until the full game comes out.

Q3:

Where does this game take place?

Somewhere in the South East Asian region. I won't say exactly where yet since this may spoil the plot of the game.

Q4:

When is this game coming out?

Not so soon. Sorry, I made this as a tiny passion project for me and not really something I want to focus 100% on. I am not really sure if this may or may not be released to begin with. Who knows? Only time can tell.

Q5:

Why did you make the decision to work on Lock Away?

Two reasons. One I will keep secret for now. So anyway, one of the reasons why and pretty much the BIGGEST reason is because, Silent Hill and Resident Evil have greatly influenced the horror game genre. Yeah, they are not scary anymore but they are still pretty good (and also kinda hard) horror games. And since the early 2010s, horror games have been dying out. Games like Silent Hill: Downpour and Resident Evil 6 have not been well received by fans or critics. And because of that, they lost the throne to indie developers who soon made Amnesia, Outlast, Five Nights at Freddy's Slender, etc. And seeing that Resident Evil made a strong comeback and Silent Hill still being... Well uh... Silent. I decided to make this passion project as a homage to the games that I loved playing. And what is the other reason? Again, I will keep it a secret for now. That and I saw Lost in Vivo and Banned Memories. I thought they looked cool so I wanted to give my own spin on the SH/RE formula.

Q6:
What does "Lock Away" mean? Why is the game titled that?

I think that should be very obvious. But I will leave it up to you to find out.

Q7:
Will there be a sequel to Lock Away?

Honestly I have no idea. I do have plans but they are very different to the plans I have for LA. If I were to make a Second game it would be similar to Resident Evil 4 or Silent Hill Downpour. (Yes I like Downpour, don't judge me or the game for that.) And if I were to make a third game, it will most likely be like Resident Evil 7/Biohazard 7 and the now cancelled Silent Hills where the game is in first person.

Q8:
Will this game have monsters or zombies?

Both.

Q9:
When will this game come out?

I have no idea yet. Soon is not really an answer I would give.

Q10:

Is BlankFace Studios related to SadSquare Studio?

Okay this is a bit of a joke question I made up but, no. I am not associated with the people who created Visage. And no, I do not really plan on making a PT inspired game. Maybe a playable teaser with a PT like house for LA. But you know... With real gameplay and not just random obscure puzzles and jumpscares. They were really good jumpscares but still.

Okay, that is all the time I have for this QnA session. If you have any questions, go ask in the coments. I will see you all next month. If I have anything to show that is.

Just as Pecaminosa's musicians #improvise this rendition of #LittleSunflower 🌻, so do we improvise with this post you're reading. 😂

What's coming out of your own improvs? 🤔

Been working lately on lots of 'behind-the-scenes' boring stuff that no one really cares about, so here’s a guy playing the sax for some reason.

We made a lot of improvements on the Freezing Plains visual. Things like pine trees, tiny bushes, some rocks, and others game props!

Enemies can also suddenly spawn through Realm Rifts. These Rift Spawns are going to be stronger than the ones wandering around. TBD on the enemies... #screenshotsaturday #godstear #madewithunity

Today I was setting up the location of the first boss. His name is "Father" and he is the first of the Patagonians. His task is to guard the road to the House.🛡🗡 Bookmark pre-launch page🔖🔖🔖

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!

Animation test. Not an actaul conclusion to who wins sonic vs Mario. Just a test animation combo.
