MVJam17: Feb 20th - Feb 27th

Thanks to the success of the first Music Video(game) Jam and the second, we’re having a third! It’s almost like an annual game jam, huh. The Music Video(game) Jam is a week-long jam, from Feb 20th through Feb 27th, with the purpose of creating music video(games). Under the music tab, there will be multiple songs to use for your game. When the jam starts, you will pick one of these songs and craft a game around your chosen song.

Music Video(game) what?

Here’s a short post on Gamasutra dipping into the idea of non-player-centric-games, which can suit music video(games) well, but for the purpose of this jam, a music video(game) is defined as:

  • no sounds outside of the selected song

  • the game must end when the song does

  • the ending should (ideally) concluded the game in a satisfying way

  • the game should showcase the song

As stated above, the game should feature the song, rather than steal the spotlight. Create an experience that alters the way players will hear the song from now on. Build your game to match the flow of the song. Simply put, make the song visually interactive!

Fabulous!

We have 4 unique new tracks for this jam from 5 fantastic artists! All artists have agreed enabled Soundcloud download for this jam and have given permission for you to use their song in your jam games. So throw on your pop’s headset and stretch out to these beats!

You’re not allowed to start working until the jam begins, but with more than one song to pick from, we could all use some time to kick back and zone out to those tunes for a bit.
